.ru-'th MR. CHARLES W. PFLAUM Head MISS MARY ANN BOYLE i Mathematics The mathematics which we teach at Iohn Marshall is part of the con- tinuum of mathematical knowledge to which the child should first be introduced in kindergarten, and which should continue until he completes his formal education. Since each individual will differ in the ease and ability with which he will master mathematics we have three levels of work: Regents, non- regents, and remedial. It is our object to give to each young person the ' opportunity to rise to the maximum degree of development of which he or she is capable. For the unusually gifted we provide the opportunity to study calculus, so that advanced mathematics and physics may be studied with the proper tools at hand. We further divide the regents groups into honors sections so that the more able students may study the subjects in depth. To properly assess each students ability we make use of all available tests, and mental measurements. To properly teach the courses, we have trained teachers, assisted by modern teaching aids and equipment. MR. JOSEPH H. CONROY MR. PAUL T. EPPING MR. MONROE I, LORD MRS. EDITH B. MR. DANIEL C. I-IOUSEMAN Head BROWN Science In this exciting space age history shaping headlines confront us almost daily. We are in a global race unprecedented since the beginning of time. Behind each of these stirring headline-producing events is the scientist and engineer. These specialists must receive training . . . training in critical thinking training in the ability to solve problems by the scientific method, training in the development of accuracy and the attention to detail. To develop these abilities, to point out our dependence upon Science in all phases of our modern life, to make students aware of career opportunities in the fields of Science and Engineering have been the goals of the Science Department.
