Twent -F ive Years 0 Progress . . . It was pointed out by Mr. Spin- ning in his dedicatory address that It is signiiicant that it was the pupils of the Iohn Marshall High School themselves who were first to point out that the building and all which it contains are but the means to an ends that these facili- ties are justified only as the pro- gram carried out here brings some- thing of lasting value to society. Y! At these exercises we, the students and teachers were challenged to remember - That the chief aim of scholastic endeavor is to seek out truth: That we should cherish exactness in rnathematicsp thorough comprehension in read- ingg clear statement in compositiong faithful examination of all the data in science and history and economics: That the best preparation for life is life well lived in the presentp That to know is not enoughp that conduct is three-fourths of iifep and the ideais of boys and girls are even more important than skill and knowledgeg That the hand training has always' been a part of sound educationp That the hand informs the mind and the hand interprets the mind: That it is the obligation of the modern school to discover and help to develop special talentsp that from creative activity comes the greatest ioyp That fun and friendship are important elements in life and that all in their activities should strive to emphasize the development of each one: That health is essential to happiness and to all continuing achievementg That we should remember the sacredness of personalityp That teachers should re- spect the students and cultivate in them understanding of and a respect for the views and the needs of others. We at Marshall have aimed through the past years to live and teach according to these goalsg it is our feeling that in the years ahead we should maintain these same goals giving even greater emphasis to their realization. 4
