To Our Dedicated Assistant Principal. . . Because you have been a great guiding light throughout our four years at Marshall High School, and have left behind us an immemorable shadow, we are deeply honored to dedicate this yearbook to you, Mr. William Crumrine, our assistant principal. Mr. Crumrine's life began on a farm in Nova, Ohio. After graduating from Troy Centralized High School, he worked for four years, then he entered Ashland College, where he re- ceived his A.B. degree. Prior to entering the Army in 1941, he taught for two years in Green Springs, Ohio. Not only was he an instructor of chemistry, physics, and advanced mathe- matics, but he also served as athletic director and coached football, basketball, and baseball. Mr. Crumrine's military service included training in the infantry, medical, and aviation branches, then he was assigned to the West Coast Flying Training Command, where in April, 1943, he received his commission as second lieutenant. After many assignments, including Hq., and Hq. U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C., he returned to civilian life and reserve status in April, 1946. Upon retiring from military service, Mr. Crumrine secured a job teaching science and mathematics at Albion High School for one year. He and his wife fthe former Margaret Krau- shaar, whom he- married in 19451 and their family moved to Marshall in 1947. Eight years after receiving his master's degree from the University of Michigan, he relinquished his science teaching to become assistant principal of Marshall High, although he still enjoys substituting in physics and chemistry. During the summer of 1958, he attended Cornell University on a Shell Merit Fellowship to study chemistry and science. In addition to his many duties in the high school, and also Marshall's adult education program, our assistant principal is an active member in several professional organizations, in- cluding the Michigan and National Education Associationsg locally, he participates on several committees of the Marshall Teachers' Club. In other capacities, he is now serving as im- mediate past-president of the Michigan Science Teachers' Association, he also holds me-mberships in the Michigan Counselors' Association, Local Guidance Association, and the Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals. Obviously, the above-mentioned keep him very busy, and yet he has managed to complete 19 years of service in the Air Force Reserve Squadron, Battle Creek. At present, he holds the rank of lieutenant colonel, and he is planning to have 22 years completed when he retires. The William Crumrines now reside on North Linden with their three- healthy youngsters, twelve-year-old Carol Sue, ten-year-old Jim, and Dan, who is six years of age. The entire family is active in church and community affairs. Due to the aid and assistance you have always ojfered us, and the many accomplishments and successes of your own life, Mr. Crumrine, we take the greatest pleasure in dedicating to you our 1961 Dial.
