Mr. Crumrine took over as Assistant Principal to Mr. Rose with Mr. Gray moving up as Administrative Assistant to Mr. Holmes. In Journalism We Learn B Doing This year's Journalism class is showing lust how profitable the new Junior Journalism course is. It helps teach the correct way to write. Other classes have not been as fortunate to have This training. This year, with the help of an extremely ambitious staff, the bi-weekly has been improved upon to the point of being one of the best papers the school has had. Aside from putting out a paper, a journalism course teaches promptness, responsibility, and accuracy. These are all very valuable for the development of a more out- standing individual. Chemistry is studied for the practical knowledge gained and also for the basis for future study in college. Many things are learned by the student that enables him to better understand the world about him. Physics is studied to provide the student with the necessary background for advanced study in the field of science and engineering. lt is also studied by those who don't plan to go to college. In English class we learn of the con- flicts and social problems of other cultures. The purpose of the course is to teach students the mechanics and theories of Journalism from both the reader's and writer's point of view. Most students who take this course prove to be a genuine asset to the Dial staff their senior year, 15,1 if Latin provides a student with the foundation for many phases of study. The important result is a taste ot genuine study which carries over into college lite. The historical aspect is also important since the students learn of the cultures, traditions, and actions of the days of ancient Rome. l Spain, Mexico, Latin and South America. The people ot the Spanish classes learn about them all. The main objects of their studies, though, are to learn the language of those lands, their customs, their geography, and to understand the peoples. Mrs. Murray and Mr. Fitzgerald devote a lot of time and effort to make these courses worth while. XX KTM, The Spanish and Latin Clubs are a valuable supple- ment to their classes. Mixed Pleasure With Practical Training The F.H.A. is an organization designed to make today's girls tomorrow's homemalcers. Through this club the importance of home management and social functions is learned. The members of this club planned and prepared suppers, teas, and the big event of the year was the F.H.A. banquet. Under the able leadership of Miss Merritt and the head ushers, Claireen Hamilton and Mary Terwilliger, these girls grace our auditorium with their poise and efficiency. Ushers Chosen on Merit Library is Streamlined, Improved The library club assists Mrs Miller in the im portant 'ob of keeping the books of our library organized They dispense and replace the books on the shelves thus rendering a valuable service to the students of Marshall High The Varsity Club is made up of varsity letter winners. The club in its third year stands for the five points of the M , sportmanship, team- work, scholarship, spirit, loyalty. A pancake supper put on by the Varsity Club was both fun and profitable for them. A , Ill he . A WNW in- ' The Bible Club represents the religious life of Marshall High. They are a group of Marshall High students who have banded together for the purpose of studying and discussing the Bible and the nature of Christ's messages. The club is interdenominational and has no faculty sponsor. The Spiritual Organization of M. H. . They Wear Their Pins With Pride The National Honor Society was installed for the first time in Marshall High last year. Students have to have a B average to qualify. The faculty chooses the members on the basis of Service, Leadership, Character and Scholarship. Charter members of' the organization are Charles Hookway, Lewis Ruddock, Dale Bemis, Joyce Oldham, Jane Stagg, Steve Kahler and Stuart Tenney. Newly installed this year were: Michael McNulty, Peter Stuart, Gerald Milatz, Roger Elyea, Kenneth Patton, James Davidson, Harold Cook, Larry Campbell, Marilyn Rollins, Jill Wilson, Wanda Miller, Susan Sands, Charlotte Currie and Claireen Hamilton. The F.F.A. had another busy year, with presidents Ron Harris and Dave Holibaugh conducting the activities. They took several interesting trips and won more than the usual number of awards. The Girls Athletic Association is for the purpose of promoting better citizenship and sportsmanship, to aid in the development of its members socially, physically and mentally. The Roman Kid, was based on a young sportswriter's love for an archeologist's daughter. The sportswriter gained the father's approval by saving his iob as an archeologist, therefore getting the girl. The Plum Tree, was the center of activities in an old ladies' home.
