Iohn T. Symons Quiet, unassuming Mr. Symons came to our rescue, teaching social science and supervis- ing intramural ath- letics. He attended Michigan State Normal College, and was for- merly superintendent of the Coldwater schools. Robert L. Van Voorhees Papa Van Voorhees teaches chemistry,phys- ics, and aeronautics to aspiring enthusiasts. He achieved his B.S. at Western Michigan Col- lege, and came to M.H.S., his own Alma Mater, from Pittsford, Michigan. Iessie G. Truesdell The perfect teacher for junior high, Miss Trues- dell teaches social stud- ies and mathematics. Before coming to Mar- shall 3 years ago, she lived in Bronson, Mich. She attained a B.S. De- gree at Western Michi- gan C. of Ed., and an M.A. at the U. of M. Elsie Wagner Classical-minded Miss Wagner teaches Latin and English, and does a wonderful job spon- soring the Latin and Usher Clubs from year to year. She has an A.B. from the U. of M.: and taught in Plain- well before corning to Marshall, her home- land. Dorothy Watson Fresh from Western Michigan College and a B.S. Degree, bright- eyed, gorgeous-haired Miss Watson teaches home economics to the junior high, dividing her efforts between cooking cmd sewing. She ma- neuvered the shift from college student to high school instructor like that . Culver Wilcox This jolly gentleman teaches biology and agriculture. The Future Farmers of America have thrived under his expert guidance. His B.S. and M.A. were earned at Michigan State College. 11 Ruth Shirley West Young, but with a mar- velous art background, Miss West came to us from Northern Mich. Teachers' College at Marquette to take Mrs. Betts' place in the Art Dept. She has her A.B. Degree from that college. Carrie Belle Wright Illness forced this usual- ly unwearied faculty member to take a leave of absence this year, and her shorthand and bookkeeping classes are supervised by Mr. Chaney. She has her Life Certificate from Yypsilanti State Nor- mal, is a graduate of Cleary Bus. College, and studied at the U. of M.

Mabel E. Humphrey One of our most be- loved standbys, Miss Humphrey, teaches mathematics and push- pulls her pupils through penmanship. Her AB. came from Western Mich. College of Ed. She migrated from Har- rison, Michigan. Mildred R. Lowell Mrs. Lowell, who has Winsome personality, came to us with her husband from Holly, Michigan, three years ago. She guides class- es in general science and mathematics. Her degrees are A.B. from Indiana University, and Bessie F. Kiefer This sweet and beloved lady teaches mathe- matics. Her A.B. De- gree was acquired at Western Michigan C, of Ed., and her M.A. at the U. of M. As co- sponsor of the sopho- more class, she did a masterful job managing our famed hot dog stand. H. Matthew Lowell This likeable gent teaches science to the iunior high. He attained his A.B. at Western Michigan C. of Ed., and an M.A. at the U. of M. Her B.S. Degree is on record at LaCrosse State Teachers' College, Wis. Bess C. Murray Untiring in her respon- sibilities of teaching Iunior and Senior English and journalism, Mrs. Murray also directs the junior and senior plays. Her M.A. De- gree was fulfilled at Columbia University. 10 Frances Merritt Tall, likeable Fannie patches up split infini- tives and dangling par- ticiples with a prac- ticed nand in her second floor English room. She achieved her A.B. at Albion Col- lege. After Mrs. Shin- gleton left, Miss Merritt capably filled her post as co-sponsor of the junior class. Elaine Skud Miss Skud, of the dark flashing eyes, holds forth on Spanish and English in room 311. The freshman class se- lected her as the femi- nine sponsor for their first sr. high year.
