She is the proud possessor of A.B. and M.A. Degrees from Mich. State Normal and the U. of M. Louise M. Diehl This most active mem- ber of our faculty not only teaches High School English but writes many articles for leading instructional magazines. She has an A.B. from Michigan State Normal, and a B.S. from Western Michigan. Frances A. Miller Our quiet, efficient li- brary custodian keeps the books in place and assists poor lost stu- dents in finding the references they seek. Under her skillful guid- ance, the Library Club has flourished. .Ruby Draughon Ruby-haired Ruby Knee Alexanderl instructs junior high pupils in mathematics and social studies. This recent bride came to us from Muskegon. Her A.B. is a product of Western Ruth Ann Erskine Her dark hair and ready smile co-pilot her math- ematics ability in guide ing classes through theorems and postu- lates. She co-sponsored the class of '46 through its last year. She has her A.B. and M.A., and graduate study at Cor- nell U. Bruce A. Gray Magruder's co-partner in teaching that necess sary evil, government -American and Inter- national, is also our magnificent mentor of major sports. Mr. Gray mastered his A.B. at Albion College. and his M.A. at the U. of M. 9 Michigan C. of Ed. Martha Foster This busy member of the faculty doubles as home economics teacher and housewife. When Mrs. Shingleton left in October, Mrs. Foster graciously filled the vacancy. She achieved her B.S. De- gree at Michigan State. H. H. Harrison This active teacher al- ways does a grand job. Along with teaching general shop and me- chanical drawing, he co-sponsored the busy junior class. Hub, who's graced these halls full many a year, attained his B.S. Degree at Western Michigan C. of Ed.

Ruth M. Betts H. W. Holmes Our expert superin- tendent and fly-tying fisherman competently holds the reins of M. H. S. His A.B. and M.A. were accomp- lished at Western Mich- igan, U. of M., and Albion College. Edward G. Rose The placid and adroit guardian of our halls and hearer of all com- plaints is our under- standing principal. He earned an A.B. Degree from Albion College, an A.M. from Michigan, and is a near-Ph.D. This sweet and quiet connoisseur teaches art and interior decoration. Mrs. Betts, a double for Katherine Hepburn, achieved her B.A.E0 from Art Institute, Chi- cago, and her B.A. from Michigan State College. Driving to Marshall from Battle Creek each day, she occupied the chair of art for one semester. Vira L. Hecht In addition to capably filling her position as secretary to the super- intendent, friendly and efficient Vira is always ready to help the stu- dents in every way. Tirele'ss Mrs. Hecht is a graduate of Argu- brights' Bus. College. Clayton C. Andersen Our powerfully built assistant coach and physical education teacher is affection- ately known as Andy to the students. His B.S. Degree was earned at Western Michigan C. of Ed. Andy's avo- cation is refereeing non-Marshall games. Fred T. Chaney Mr. Chaney, our Pacific veteran and past typ- ing teacher, presides over bookkeeping, ac- counting, business training, and shorthand. He has a B.S. Degree from Northern S. T. C., and an M.A. from the U. of M. Henry W. Cunningham Our highly regarded senior sponsor, Henry, teaches American His- tory, speech, and de- bate. I-le mastered his A.B. at Greenville Col- lege, and his A.M. at the U. of M. H. W. came here from Mid- dleville. Burrell B. Bradley The Toscanini of M.H.S. directs the choir, the band, and the string ensemble in his posi- tion as supervisor of music. His Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Arts Degrees were acquired at Olivet College. Mariory E. Chaney This popular war time relief teacher substitut- ed while her husband was in the Army. She teaches typing, and at- tained her B.S. 'from Central Michigan C. of Ed. CML Pleasantl. Mrs. Chaney came from St. Iohns, Mich. to Mar- shall, as a bride first, then teacher.

Mabel E. Humphrey One of our most be- loved standbys, Miss Humphrey, teaches mathematics and push- pulls her pupils through penmanship. Her AB. came from Western Mich. College of Ed. She migrated from Har- rison, Michigan. Mildred R. Lowell Mrs. Lowell, who has Winsome personality, came to us with her husband from Holly, Michigan, three years ago. She guides class- es in general science and mathematics. Her degrees are A.B. from Indiana University, and Bessie F. Kiefer This sweet and beloved lady teaches mathe- matics. Her A.B. De- gree was acquired at Western Michigan C, of Ed., and her M.A. at the U. of M. As co- sponsor of the sopho- more class, she did a masterful job managing our famed hot dog stand. H. Matthew Lowell This likeable gent teaches science to the iunior high. He attained his A.B. at Western Michigan C. of Ed., and an M.A. at the U. of M. Her B.S. Degree is on record at LaCrosse State Teachers' College, Wis. Bess C. Murray Untiring in her respon- sibilities of teaching Iunior and Senior English and journalism, Mrs. Murray also directs the junior and senior plays. Her M.A. De- gree was fulfilled at Columbia University. 10 Frances Merritt Tall, likeable Fannie patches up split infini- tives and dangling par- ticiples with a prac- ticed nand in her second floor English room. She achieved her A.B. at Albion Col- lege. After Mrs. Shin- gleton left, Miss Merritt capably filled her post as co-sponsor of the junior class. Elaine Skud Miss Skud, of the dark flashing eyes, holds forth on Spanish and English in room 311. The freshman class se- lected her as the femi- nine sponsor for their first sr. high year.
