Text from Pages 1 - 144 of the 1978 volume:

ause past yearbooks, like bad copy, no backbone I not enough color. Then we made plans to do Collage Patrons, DO YOU LIKE THIS YEARS BOOK?? We on the Collage staff hope we worked on it very hard. Being on the yearbook staff means coming to |i | f school in the summer, working till 10:00 at night, on weekends, and during vacations. The 77-78 staff started the year by making a list of negative comments we had heard label, not enough what was possible to better our book. By “what was possible” we mean that the books cost about about $15.00 a copy to produce, and we sold them • - . ii V' v • £1 intfii i for $9.00. Somewhere along the line money had to be raised and SKIMPED on. Another problem we had was getting input from the whole school. The HinT Collage is a picture of Marshall-University, and we need more students and staff to contribute their ideas, pictures, and support. Especially next year, since a lot of the staff is graduating. If you are interested, see Andy Ostazeski. il A We just wanted everyone to know that we all worked HARD to make a good book, and we think you’ll appreciate it. The Administration’s job (if you don’t already know) is to keep the school running (maybe not smoothly, but running). Although very busy, the Administrators still find time to cheer at games, chaperon dances, and get around to “see what’s happenin’”! 6 ADMINISTRATION ... click, click, click ... “May I help you ?” ... Bringgg! ... “No, she’s not in right now” ... click, click ... “Alice who?” ... Bringgg! ... ‘‘No, this isn’t Joe’s Pizzaria. It’s the Marshall-University High School office” ... “No, I’m not Penny the Pizza Princess, I work here in the office.” ... “What do we do here? Well, we type, answer phones, file, and generally make ourselves useful.” ... “No, we don’t deliver!” This Page: L to R: Lucille McQuitter, Natalie Odegard, Florence Stromgren, Eleanore Miller, Marge Hofstede, Joan Lundquist. OFFICE STAFF MARSHALL—U.H. LIBRARY MINNEAPOLIS 7 STUDENT SERVICES The Student Services department’s main function is to aid and assist the student body. They help with scraped knees, Jaeche projects, broken movie projectors, “what to do after high school” questions, credit problems, and more. Whatever the riddle, they’ll find the solution — or at least try. 8 Top to Bottom: L to R: Opposite Page: Iris Kangas, Otto McDuffie, Paul Johnson, Grace Johnson, David Neilson, Rita Drone, Denise Bass. SEEVICE STAFF The service staff work long hours from early morning until long after the students have departed at night. They cook, serve, clean, sweep, wipe, vacuum, repair, wash, and help all day long. And they look pretty snazzy in their new uniforms too! 11 12 Physical Education is very important. It builds strong minds and bodies, teaches good sportsmanship, gives kids a break from academic classes and offers a chance to work off excess energy. M-U business classes are good for more than just future secretaries and accountants. The available classes teach skills such as note taking, paper typing, and money management. Also, the work program, very important to M-U students, is under the jurisdiction of the business department. This page: Top to bottom: L to R: Lyn Cabalka, Ed Prohofsky, John Jurisch, Fritz Wold, John Freeman, Phyllis Dalman, Bernie Robbins, Gary Strom. PHY ED BUSINESS Contributed by 2 Open School students: ... Open school works because it gives a student a chance to learn more about the things he she are interested in. And at their own speed, without competition or pressure. The main goals of Open School education are to add to traditional learning methods by teaching the student to be self-sufficient, responsible, and respectful of others as human beings________ OPEN SCHOOL 13 14 “English is a mirror and a lamp that extend our vision of what we are or might be.” -M. Hoke “To me teaching (English) is a privilege because it allows me to share my interests with many young and usually enthusiastic people.” -B. McDonough This Page: Top to Bottom: L to R: Melvin Hoke, Joan Yesner, Carol Hors will, Joan Williamson, Bart McDonough, Gene Lohman. ENGLISH What do you do in a social studies class? Sit around and socialize? Well, maybe sometimes, but you can also learn lot. At M-U, classes from American history to Sociology to Politics are offered, with a little of the history of football thrown in. This Page: Top to Bottom: I. to R: .loe Jocketty, Lyle Christensen. Art Chiodo, Sherdian Jaeche, Robert Baker. SOCIAL STUDIES 15 Music ... Formless sculpture, Painting with Sounds and tones. Art ... Soundless symphonies, Dreams to see, touch and Experience. Foreign language is essential for communication with French cows and enchiladas. Besides, in what other class can you get credit for talking back to the teacher? This Page: Top to Bottom: L to R: Andrew Ostazeski. Thea Engeleson, Barb Gunderson. Arturo Herrera. Bill Running. FOREIGN LANGUAGE FINE ARTS 16 Home Economics means more than just cooking and sewing at M-U. This year classes are offered in child developement, interpersonal relations, independent living, plus special hours for the handicapped. This Page: Top to Bottom: L to R: Carol Anderson, Chuck Jacobson, Idebelle Silverstein, Caryl Wogensen, Brad Borsheim. Marshall-U High offers a diverse industrial arts program. The programs offered include the most advanced high school plastics program in the state, basic metals, woodworking for the hobbyist, graphic arts, and printing. Students are thus able to develope skills which they will be able to use for the rest of their lives.” -C. Driessen HOME EC. IND. ARTS 17 2sin(x-3)-6 If you can’t figure out the above problem, then maybe you should take one of M-U’s various math courses. They range from General Math for beginning genius’ to Calculus for plain, old math wizards. Whatever your mathematical needs, you can fulfill them in an M-U math class. This page: L to R: Lester Twedell, Leona Hansen, John Walther, Herb Guertin, George Patten. MATH 18 Faster than a shooting star, more powerful than a homemade engine, able to leap thick textbooks in a single trimester. Superman?? No!! It’s an M-U science class!
