1892 A nniue rdarij 1957 The graduation of the present class from Marshall marks the 65th anniversary of the beginnings of the school. It was in 1892 that the first class graduated from the brand-new East High School, now existing in memory only as “Old East High.” With the opening of Marshall in 1924, the building was no longer used as a school; the building was torn down in August, 1951, to make way for expansion of the Crystal Super Market. Although there arc now two East Side high schools. Dr. Joseph Kane, a member of that first graduating class, considered Marshall to be the most direct dcsccndent when he returned to Minneapolis this fall and presented the school with the picture of the first class. Dr. Kane was born in 1873, finished his medical training at the University of Minnesota, and practiced medicine until his retirement in 1943. He states that since retiring he has never been lonely or bored, that he reads “sturdy books and a few paper backs and on awakening mornings his first thought is “another holiday . 3

We, the students of Marshall High, wish to honor Mr. Olsen, who has unselfishly given of his time and energy as adviser to the Cardinal. This year, the first in many, Mr. Olsen’s wisdom and guidance was with the Cardinal Staff only in the form of inspiration; to Mr. Olsen, we dedicate the 1957 Cardinal.
