Senior Council Senior Judge Stall •The first half of this year's Judges (the better half) was published by the Senior Judge Staff, headed by another young lady, Bev Brown. The staff lineup included Bev Brown, editor; Tom Upton, first page; Marlene Zappa, second page; Gloria Thorson, third page; and Jim Hunt, sports page. Marshall might be termed a woman's worldl The mentors of the Senior Student Council, and the Senior Judge Staff are all members of the fair sex. Art Radtke, editor of the Junior Judge Staff, is the only exception to the rule. The Senior Student Council under the leadership of Rosemary Lenhort staged the most successful Mardi Gras in the history of Marshall. They cleared $650. The other officers were Sheldon Mielke, vice president; Ruth Rusek, recording secretary; Mary Smilanich, corresponding secretary; and Dick Johnson, treasurer. junior Council {Junior {Judge Stall Oh, oh — here's another woman! Ably in charge of the Junior Student Council is Jean Brown, president; Dick Stone, vice president; Connie Hofstrom, recording secretary; and Dan Briggs, corresponding secretary. Bob Lundell and Art Radtke assumed the job of coeditors as the juniors inherited the Judge the second semester. The page editors were Henry Aro, first; Dick Jorgenson, second; Katie Smith, third; and Jerry Swanberg, sports. Besides supplying Marshall with news, both the junior and senior staff were again in charge of Judge Day. Oh! The drums go bang and the cymbals clang, And the horns they blaze away, Hogan pumps the old bassoon While I the pipes do play. Marion Valasek tootles the flute The music is something grand, A credit to ol' Marshall High, Is Mr. Lyn Roam's Band. Yes and what a band it is! The progress they've made this year has been simply tremendous! Their first major appearance — and such an impressive one — was made at Homecoming when the band so gracefully strutted to Pass That Peace Pipe and a war dance to help carry out their Indian theme in the game against the Southwest Indians. Throughout the year, the industrious band has participated in many activities, one of them being the Arardi-Gras, at which they sponsored the jail. A most inspiring concert performed on the Marshall stage took place last March when the band presented an array of new musical masterpieces and novelty numbers. Among them were Raymond Overture and Deep River Rhapsody. The band has flourished this year under the leadership of Dennis Young as president, Don Story as vice president, Marion Valasek, secretary, and Gloria Clark as treasurer. Such musical quality as the Senior Choir has exhibited this year may never again be duplicated! Their two most memorable performances were the Christmas Program and the Annual Spring Musical. This truly has been a year of changes for the Choir. The former custom of having two performances of the Christmas Program was very successfully reestablished. The Village Blacksmith ' a cantata from the poem by Henry W. Longfellow, was very beautifully presented as a major part of the spring program. This type of musical has never before been attempted at Marshall. Officers of this group this year are Terry Clarke and Mary Jo Westhoff, associate presidents; Barbara Pelak and Ann Moellman, secretaries, and Pat Clough, treasurer. Marshall certainly is going to have an excellent Senior Choir in the near future if the Junior Glee Club is an example of its future members. Under the leadership of Miss Mabel Vincent, the Glee Club presented their Spring Musical which was equally as beautiful as the Choir's program. The folk and Indian dances and the religious music added versatility and sparkle to the program. The president of this excellent group is Janelle Fergeson. Chicago, JJete We Come H-Y Officer , Tom Cox, vice president and treasurer, Tom Upton, secretory, Doug Wollaco, chaplain, and Bill Teeter, president, making plans for the big event on the Hi-Y calendar. Other special events were the annual Shamrock Shog and the Fall Training Conference. CJ Blue Tri Officers: Zoe Van Alstine, I. C. C. Representative, Mary Smilanich, secretary, Miss Turnquist, advisor, Joan Miller, treasurer, Donna Berge, vice president, Jane Matsuura, president, on their way to plan Spinster's Day. Other special events were the annual Holly Hop and th Dad-Daughter Beonfeed. Junior Queen, lorit Kronstedt Senior Queen, Joanne Carlson. Mmmmmm-Boy, let's get jaxxyl Stop, you're killing me! The strains of the processional began, and a day filled with thrills, excitement, and fun was under way. All was hushed as Mr. Chapman paced back and forth before the King candidates, finally stopping before Jim Sticka. Applause resounded throughout the auditorium. Then all was still as Betty Svac stepped in front of the Queen candidates. The climax arrived when Betty brought forth Jane Matsuura to be crowned Marshall's 1952 Homecoming Queenl Long remembered will be Queen Jane's radiant smile, the cheerleaders' adorable mascots, and our team's valiant performance. junior Alb 3 Laughter rocked the walls of the Marshall auditorium as Ruth Rusek and JoEllen Langguth romped through their roles as Judy Graves and Fluffy Adams, the incorrigible teen-agers. The audience felt as if they were re-living their own junior high school days—when the boys were two inches shorter than the girlsl Pete Theros and Marlene Ewing supplied the romantic interest, with Doug Wallace as Marlene's irate parent. Others in the cast were Jim Genty, Marie Jerabek, Dennis Young, Henry Aro, Ray Skillings, Mary Smilanich, Sam Clark, Dean Olson, Chuck Magneson, Roseanne Tunheim, and Rodger Folstad. This successful play was directed by Bob Bennett. c4x enic c4nd Old J ace Under the direction of Robert Bennett the seniors presented the comedy thriller, ARSENIC AND OLD LACE. The two murdering aunts, Anne Bochelder and Rosemary Lenhart dominate the Brewster household, while their eccentric nephew, Tom Cox, digs the graves in the cellar for their victims. Another nephew, David Olson and his doctor pal, Clinton Bliss, add to the murders. The murders are finally solved by Jim Hunt, with the help of the Brooklyn police, Dick Epperly, Sheldon Mielke, and Bob DeValois. Sylvia Brown supplies the romantic element as the daughter of Kevin Erickson. Bill Teeter and Harold Flolid complete the cast as potential victims of the arsenic and old lace. Constance Kawalek was student director of the production. lift m« «r CUTEST COUPLE MOST SERVICE PRETTIEST HAIR ZJhe Cardinal Coppers Prettiest Girl Handsomest Boy Keenest Personality Keenest Personality Peppiest Girl Most Athletic Boy Bost Sense of Humor Best Sense of Humor Friendliest Girl Friendliest Boy ________ Cutest Smile Broadest Grin Most Likely to Succeed Most Likely to Succeed Typical Marshallite Typical Marshallite Prettiost Hair _ Prettiest Hair Most Service Most Service Cutest Figure Best Physique Funniest laugh Funniest Laugh Best Line__________ Best Line Best Oresser Best Dresser ___________ Most Talkative Girl Most Talkative Boy Shyest Girl Shyest Boy Most Original Girl Most Originol Boy Best Dancer Best Dancer Best All Around Girl Best All Around Boy Cutest Couple 11th Ruth Rusek Sonny Carlson Mary Smilinich Bernie Rasmussen Jo Ellen Langguth Bruce Ellis Jo Ann Skinner Dennis Young Mary Ann Uram Bob Good sell Barbara Biers Karlo Swenson Mary Cooper Sam Clark .Marilyn Anderson Bob Christophcrson -Gloria Clark Richard Ricci Sharon Hogan Jim Genty Sharon Murrell _Gory Pester Lois McFarlane Dick Bloom Karen Brustad Walter Mayer Geraldine Downing Pete Theros Beverly Detteman Joe Pesek Patsy Lou Palmer Richord Butz Nancy Peryam Frank Bublitz Sharon Butler Joe Riley Shirley Stemper John Henderscheid Marlene Ewing and Karlo Swenson 10th Milly Bjergen Dick Johnson Anne Moellmon Dick Nielson Marlene Stabile Buzzy Rongstad Carol Wray Bob Schorn Pat Clough Jock Fecht Carol Roetman Mike Doyle Marilyn Hoppe Tom Daly Marilyn Hendrescheid Ken Cardinal Jockie Norman Jerry St. Clair Louella Asp Dick Trumble Karen Wharton Dave Torkilson Sandra Sticka Jon McVoy Shirley Brown Pete Johnson Evonne Jorgensen Jack Brown Margaret Casperson Roy Holstein Jackie Hroho Bob Carpenter Barbara Pelok Raymond Leon Terry Carlson Terry Clark Arlene Kavensky Dick Lloyd Tom Doly and Jackie Norman Cite Cardinal SeanieS 9th 8th 7th Prettiest Girl Margie Wallnor Lucille Preese Judy Larson Handsomest Boy Wayne Saba Gary Downing Jim Reierson Keenest Personality Carol Ricci Elenore Moselle Margaret Van Alstine Keenest Personality Dick Gorman Dick £tone Owen Anderson Peppiest Girl DeDo Mann Pat Ekelund Gail Herring Most Athletic Boy Jim lyngholm Roger Dufault Scot Johnson Best Sense of Humor Marilyn Wegscheider Shoron Norgren Lois Einfelt •est Sense of Humor Danny Briggs Larry Rioly Norman Uphoff Friendliest Girl Carol Kunerth Jo Ann Ryan Pauline Teeter Friendliest Boy Eddy Clark Ted Mollman Douglas Howord Cutest Smile Doris Bixler Sandra Murray EUa Muller Broadest Grin Ronald Frain Phillip Hanson Rudolf Lindeland Most Likely to Succeed Beverly Jensen Dorthy Aro Helen Spink Most Likely to Succeed Ben Brown John Morganthal Dick Olen Typical Marshallite Marlys Nelson Carolyn Hunt Jo Ann Maupin Typical Marshallite Don Miller Mike Hallisey Carlton Meyer Prettiest Hair Donna Bixler Barbara Wray Sandra Zukaitis Prettiest Hair Jim Forstad Dick Kurash Kenneth Swanberg Most Service Jean Brown Judy Jocketty Barbara Roush Most Service Raymond Enz Donn Miller Joe lagerbauer Cutest Figure Jane Cherney Corrine Bublitz Patty Anderson Best Physique Fred Stone Ronnie West Don Cooper Furniest Laugh Barbara Yore Eileen Angeluchi Priscilla Noble Funniest Laugh Willie Minichilli Robert Peterson Roger Jackson Best Line Rosemary Gorman Audrey Paulson Diane Greer Best line Allen Benson 8ob Murphy Gary Kinkel Best Dresser Dlone Cox Jean Wittich Karl Belgum Best Dresser Delmer Weinbrener John Bergo John Patterson Most Tolkative Girl Judy Brackney Barbara Dcnzer Helen Bulgor Most Talkotivo Boy Mike Loth Dennis Saliney John Bcrgeson Shyest Girl Nancy Johnson Jackie Hammond Dianne Palmer Shyest Boy Richard Wefel Albert Wefel Dennis O'Hara Most Original Girl Jane Barr Sue Baker Susan Longstaff Most Original Boy Phillip Remaisik David Hill Steve Rankin Best Dancer Barbora Karlson Beverly Myhre Nancy Bjergen Best Dancer Chris Kishish Paul Hatlestad Bradley Pester Best All Around Girl Judy Stone Dona Abelsath Judy Ann Olson Best All Around Boy Bob Wagner John Stanzlowski Bob Trumble Cutest Couple Joan Livingston and Poul Hatlestad and Ernostiro Becchetti and CHEERLEADERS Jone Matsuuro Tom Upton Janice Streed Marilyn Rongstad Frances Barkman Karen Wharton Jane Barr YOUTH CENTER BOARD President, Bill Christenson Vice President, Jim Hunt Secretary, Jean Miller Treasurer, Jane Olson TEEN TOWN BOARD President, Jane Barr Vice President, Diane Cox Secretary, Dede Mann Treasurer, Sandra Riley I (DUN. ?fvocRAr Jr. Class Presentatic n GENp' $ n ci_KE The Four Lads ? fRtN pRon PlARS SuccPYTimc Gals football Marshall Marshall Marshall Marshall Marshall Marshall Marshall The football team was successful in many ways this year even though it was handicapped by its lack of size, depth, and speed. Only four teams proved themselves better than the Cards this past season in City league competition. These teams were North, Central, Henry, and Southwest — the top four teams in the standings. As we all know, this record speaks for itself. Marshall placed one boy, Jimmy Sticka, on the second All-City team for the second straight year. Jim was also named by his teammates Most Valuable Player and, with Bill Christenson, Co-Captain for the 1952 season.
