That little bell which sounds at eight thirty-five each morning is not very loud but its effect is thundering! Hundreds of students pour from ad- visories and rush down the hall in an endless stream. I'm sure you will rec- ognize the 'KGuardian of the second flight. An inspiring sight, but we must not stay to admire this battered bit of statuary because Miss Roskilly and her art class are waiting. After forging our Way thru the hall, We arrive at 212. To- day, the class is criticizing the work of the other students . . . ' 'aw' if a 1 I 5 1 H!!! -'-A-i mlqllllll Lim ll Q .' , .mo x4 A u ' JL.: , fffmwm J W f 7 . , ..,A. www -A w KH IQ1? No use, but there is the Goddess of War, Minerva, that's close enough I guess. Back into the madding crowd, and then stop to look at the piece of art contributed by Craig Robinson. Now! At lastl Time for lunch. Quit pushing we're all hungry. After watching Maury's gym class, we decided that what the boys lack in skill, they make up for in enthusiasm. The girls in Miss Stevning's gym class can make those baskets, too. Miss Boyson has her own methods of mak- ing students stand straight. You wouldn't believe it, but we Work in study hall, at times. Um, the grapefruit was so good in my victory lunch. Miss Turnquist is announcing the botany test for the next day. Chief Iustice Iohn Marshall surveys the school from his chair, While Mr. Patrick helps the girls set up print for their calling cards. And that's just about the end of our Tour through Marshall. Cappy's boys, noted for their endurance and stamina, were the smallest team that Marshall has had in many years, but they showed a lot of speed and co-operation. Later in the season, the team was divided into three squads. Such old veterans as Bud Brown, sensa- tional half-back of the year, Roger Mosiman, another smart and speedy back, teamed with Dick Gmitro, who called the plays from full-back, and Al Kacher at blocking quarter, formed the first string back-field. On April 24, the Iunior Clee Club presented I Hear America Singing. The program was a cross section of American life, including Negro dances and songs. The Orchestra accom- panied the Clee Club. The program was under the direction of Miss Vincent. The following Friday evening, the Band and Drum Corps presented Drums of My Heartf' The concert was given in the style of an old-fashioned band concert that might have taken place in any small town on a Sunday afternoon. High spots of the show were Gary Davison and Dick Rassmussen's rendition of the popular Getting Sentimental Over You, and Iohn- ny Myhre's interpretation of several old Irish songs. After the concert the Band sponsored a dance in the gymnasium with Wayne Curtis and his band beating out the rhythm. Mr. Bel- strom directed the Drum Corps and Band. May 8, the Senior Glee Club and Choir were in the limelight with the program, Stout Hearted Men. The ever popular Star Dust was sung together with IntermezZo and Piano Concerto in H Hat minor. Dances were presented on 'gLa Cucarachaf' IntermeZzo, L'Stars and Stripes, Siboney by Pat Walsh, Louanne Sheldon, Winnie Wagner, Elaine Iensen, Phyllis Krause, Virginia Owens, Gary Davison, Iohn Cullen, Don I-Iedstrom, Art Owens, Carl Ienkins, and Ioe Schilds. The Senior Club and Choir were directed by Mr. Burningham. All the dances were supervised by Miss Stevning. fllllflll' Gln, Chill lhzllfcw Seniors: This class means more to me personally than others. Many of you have been a part of my schooling for almost twelve years,' others for all of your lunior and Senior High School years. I want to share in your successes and assist in overcoming your difficulties. You leave school to become active in a war pro- gram. The opportunities, joy, and freedom for which you have looked forward must become subservient to patriotic effort. Being patriotic is doing for the sake of your country something which may be contrary to your personal interest. It is not the attitude of possessing, but that of giving. It is service and sacrifice. It emanates from a devoted loyalty to free- dom and fairdealing the symbols of the life which we have fought to estab- lish. Patriotism surges forth when any outside force attempts to jeopardize these ideals or destroy our civilization which has grown up around them. You are graduating at a time when all the armed forces are hoping that you will join them. You are all needed in service somewhere from the bomber pilot over the Pacific to the volunteer nurse attendant at home. It takes cour- age and clear thinking for you to decide where you can best serve. Knowing your spirit, your steadfastness, and your background of thinking I am proud to wish you god speed ahead and send you on to VICTORY. H. P.
