Q D H N ,J , if FIRST WE DUG INTO THEIR PAST RECORDS .. 9 GX -nz-7 The year is 1953: the month, September. A group of Freshmen, or so they were called, entered Marshall County High School for the first time. After a torture filled week of initiation--Little did we know we were the last class ever to be initiated in Marshall County High School--We settled down to routine, but never really routine for the Freshman class of '53. Through- out the year we were first in one thing and then another. We proudly elected the officers who were to guide us through this unsure but fun-filled year. They were: Pres., John H. Gillespie: Sec., Amelia Hinds: Treas., Payne Hardison: Rep., Bobby Massey: Sgts. at Arms, Sam Campbell and Margo Cheatham: Cheerleader, Jane Loyd. Our Sponsors, Mrs. Tom Shires and Mrs. J. W. Zumbro, must have possessed a wonderful trait--Pa- tiencel to guide the class of '53 so well. Our heads really began to swell when our boys won the class tournaments and one of the happiest times of the year was when we all laughed and worked together on our float for the home-coming parade. The gal we sent to royalty, our Oueen's attendant, was Amelia Hinds. Sophomores? Was it possible that our Freshman year was over so quickly and we were now the Sopho- mores of '54. We felt now we knew the ropes, and we silently smiled at the bewildered little Freshmen. We elected our officers with confidence: Pres ., Jane Loyd: Vice Pres., Jackie Bethshares: Sec., Robert Payne Hardison: Sgts. at Arms, Lettie Ross Green and John Patton: Rep.,Nancy Burnett: Treas., John H. Gillespie: Cheerleader, Amelia Hinds. Our Sponsors were Miss LaVera Lovelace, Miss Frances Moore, and Mr. O. E. Ratcliffe. Once againhomecoming rolled around, and we shared together the unforgettable experience of float decora- ting. Our .Queen's attendant was beautiful Sharon Hen- drix. ' The Junior Class of 1955 ---we delighted in re- peating this phrase. Could we possibly be Juniors ? We soon found that this was very true and we were of- ficially Juniors. Plans soon got under way for the magazine sale and Junior Senior banquet. The officers for this important year were: Pres., Payne Hardison: Vice Pres., Jackie Bethshares: Sec., Bobby Massey: Treas., Sharon Hendrix and Ann Umble: Rep., John Patton: Sgts. at Arms, John Gillespie, Don Bowden: Cheerleaders,Jane Loyd and AmeliaHinds. Our spon- sors were: Mrs. Fred Derryberry,Miss Jane Garrett, and Mrs. Robert Allen. Tennessee and Vanderbilt! ! These were the names given to the Junior class when we divided for the maga- zine sale. Magazine selling was afun-filled adventure, with Tennessee coming out on top. One of the highlights of our Junior year was the banquet in which we, the Jun- iors, entertained the Seniors. Our Homecoming Queen's attendant this year was cute Ann Hardison.

Nineteen fifty-five! ! We entered the School for the last year, looking forward to it with a little dread and lots of anticipation. ln the last three years we had en- joyed many things together that will always remain vivid in our mind's eye. The officers we chose for this last year of highschool were: President, John Pattong Vice President, Arlen Reese, Secretary, Jane Loydg Treas- urer, Robert Payne Hardisong Historian, Lettie Ross Green: Poet, Nancy Jane Burnettg Sgts. at Arms, Joe Millen and Bobby Massey. Our wonderful sponsors who led us through this last inspiring year were Miss Flo- rence Fitzpatrick and Mr. Wendell Bunch. Soon after the start of school, we made plans for our senior trip to Florida. This had to be financed for the most part by money made during this year. Under the supervision of our efficient concessions manager, Eddie Derryberry, we immediately began to fill our coffers, for each of us was becoming an experienced salesman as we hawked our wares among the specta- tors at the ball games. As soon as school started, our Tiger staff-led by the Co-Editors, Nat Brown and Judy McDaniel-began work on what we plan to be the best yearbook published at M. C. H. S. Homecoming rolled around once more, and we realiz- ed that this was the mostimportant Homecoming in four years to us. Our Queen was popular Jane Loyd, and her senior attendant was vivacious Amelia Hinds. Our float won with the slogan Tigers Gone with the W1n. The kids who for four years have represented our class in football are: Don Bowden, Robert Payne Har- dison, Robert McAdams, Fred Shelton, Jimmy Hunter, Jack Miller, Levi Cochran, Jimmy Doggett, Arlen Reese, Hugh Allen, Bobby Massey and Billy Doris Thompson. The boys and girls who represented us in basketball are: Amelia Hinds, Jane Loyd, Mary Jane Richardson, Barbara Shaw, Nancy Burnett, Bobby Massey, Joe Millen, John Patton, Charles Waldrop, Fred Shelton, Robert Payne Hardison. Each of us has been proud of these, our classmates, who struggled for the glory of M. C. H. S. Our Senior year, as it draws nearer and nearer to completion, will end many happy times and gay laughter that have surrounded us for four years, and yet we realize as we grow older that these memories will be- come more vivid and the SENIOR CLASS OF 1956 wi11 never be forgotten. if FQ? -V'
