BURKETT ADMINISTRATION BOARD OF EDUCATION L TO R: Leavitt Taylor - 7 yearsg Bert Eliason - 2 years, Reed Cammack - 8 years, Daniel Shaffer - ll years, Superintendent Andrew Johnson - 12 years, Jack Stoddard - 6 years. Five leading citizens and our superintendent comprise the Board of Education. Our school district is most fortunate to have these capable directors. Among their many responsibilities they set the policies of the school, hire teachers, secretaries, and custodiansg purchase books and equip- mentg oversee the care of school property, and secure finances for operating the school. Despite any problems that may arise, the members work together for the welfare of the students, teachers and taxpayers of the district. 1 After returning from a trip behind the Iron Curtain, Leavitt Taylor, Reed Camrnack, Mrs. Rose Johnson, and Andrew Johnson find their belief in our American heritage intensified. A rare honor came to Superintendent Andrew H. Johnson this year. He was selected to accompany 133 other educators from the United States and Canada on a tour of Eastern Europe and including Russia. His wife, Rose and trustees Leavitt Taylor and Reed Cammack accompanied him. Eighteen days were spent behind the iron curtain. According to Superin- tendent Johnson, all people who live on this side of the iron curtain should thank God every day of their lives that they do not live under Communism. PRINCIPAL ADMINISTRATION WAYNE NIEISEN Fortunate is our school for having an administrator who is a friend of all the students, and who becomes acquainted with each one, personally. During Principal Nielsen's eight years of service, the students have found him to be a tactful person, sound in judgment. He renders counsel andfguidance to those who need it. lylafrstRValfl'ey has tyrfily benefited under ,WYE nv- . . it wr his leadership. at ,fr-gif X if ff .1 ,lfInjf'1.p.3,4j,,,,,.ifgf,H g X Q f r' fry SUPERINTENDENT ANDREW H. JOHNSON Although he is the man behind the scenes, Superintendent Johnson is well liked by those who know him. No matter how busy he is, he always finds the time to4cQme and support the activities sponsored by our high school. We highly commend him, after twelve years of service, for his work and willingness to serve the citizens and students of Marsh Valley. The responsibility is a heavy one, but the satisfaction gained is a great reward. The camera catches the action of a hard-fought football game between Managers Bruce Bronson and Lee Bloxham fold the uniforms and put things away. The players owe a great deal of thanks to Bruce and Lee who travel with the team and help them whenever they can. Their responsibil ities range from waiting on the players hand and foot to keeping track of equipment. The locker room is a busy place as the players get dressed after a hard game . Keith Penrose looks for someone to receive the pass he is about to make. The Junior Varsity and Freshman Football teams were coached by Dave Treasure and Mark Hasen. The Freshman team was quite inexperienced and, although they made a good account of themselves, they won only one of their four games. The Junior Varsity scored four victories against four defeats. There are several fine prospects for future Eagles' Varsity team. Lee Bloxham, Mike Jacobson, David Johnson, Gary Yearsley, and Mgr. Richard Brower. SECOND ROW: Coach Mark Hasen, Scott Hadley, Joe Egley, Ivan Bullock, Ray Girard, Ronald Wakley, Ken Degn, and Tim Rowe. Marsh Valley's basketball coaches for 65-66 were Ass't Coach Dave Treasure and Coach Mark Hasen. We feel Marsh Valley came up with a fairly successful bas- ketball season. The season started with a lack of experience and height. Ron Wakley was the only boy with any experience back from last year. The pre-league season ended with 4 wins and 4 losses. As the league season started, we realized that the competition would get much tougher. We ended the regular season with a nine win, eleven loss record. During the tournament the Marsh Valley team displayed a great amount of endurance and basketball savvy. After losing the first game to American Falls, the team went on to defeat Malad, Montpelier, Snake River and the same American Falls team in a very decisive manner. Preston High School defeat- ed Marsh Valley for the championship of the fifth district, but M. V. still received a state berth as the runner-up team. There was a great amount of excitement and enthusiasm about the team going to the State tournament. The team played a great game against Gooding High School and lost in the last 39 seconds, 65 to 64. The same Gooding team went on to win the State Championship in a more decisive manner. The overall record was 13 wins and 15 losses with 7 losses being decided by five or less points. Coach Hasen felt that the players displayed a great amount of courage, desire, and pure guts. The long hours of practice and work the boys had gone through had shown its worth at the end of the season. SCOREBOARD MV 69 ..... Grace 46 MV 51 MV 68 ..... West Side 43 MV 63 MV 50 ..... At Christmas, the choir was invited to sing The Messiah in Pocatello 1 with the members of S. I. C. Later, they held a Christmas Candlelight service in the High School l Auditorium and toured to the various elementary schools. In March, the choir was on KUBH T. V. in Logan. At the contest held in Montpelier, the choir I received an Excellent for their performance. 1 This year a small group, called Mar-Val Singers, was chosen to represent the group in smaller programs. They went on a tour to Salt Lake City: performed for . various civic groups and churches of that area. P OFFICERS OF THE CHOIR ARE: FRONT ROW: I. Nielsen, Student Director: V. It is the story told in pictures--how we worked, how we played, and how we lived at MV. We sincerely hope that not only at the present, but in the years to come, this book will be a treasured keepsake. May it recall many happy occasions with the persons and events that have played a part in your high school days. The staff, advised by Miss Dutson, has kept busy making layouts, racking their brains and the dictionary for copy write-ups, while the photographer snaps the common sights around the school. through which we pass, the corridors, the minutes of sociabilities before class, the class rooms, youth coming and going. . . Year after year buses empty their loads each morning, and students wander into the hallways and classrooms. The future years will bring new faces and changes to the school scene. There shall be for us this record of the friends we know, the things we did, and the memories that are still dear to us. Soon, we, the class of 1966, will be leaving this student body. with us we will take our indi- vidual thoughts, memories, and goalsg many of which werefmolded in these halls and rooms. To the daily routine of classes, rushing from room to room, and finally back to the buses. Quiet descends upon the school, through the lonely halls are heard the sounds of echoing footsteps. Yes, this entrance to our school, our beloved Marsh Valley High, has seen many come and go. It rests quietly as the Seniors of each year graduate and leave, on to what lies ahead. Q u.
