Higher, Joy Lou! With a nearly perfectrecord of l8 wins and only two losses, the l958 girls' team gave our school good reason to be proud of them. Particularly outstanding players were seniors Joy Lou Hensley, Joann Dycus, and Jean Gosnell, iuniors .lo Whitt and Ba rbara Metcalf, and sophomore Brenda Ponder. Thesegirls led the team in winning most games by extremely wide margins. ln the county tournament, the girls were held to second place by the strong Walnut team, despite very fine playing. However, ourgirls, holding the best record in the Skyline Conference, became con- ference champions. Four very deserving girls were chosen as members of the Al l -Tourney team - They were Joy Lou Hensley, Barbara Metcalf, Brenda Ponder, and Jo Whitt. So well is the girls' basketball talent divided among the classes that Mars Hill can look forward to other real ly good teams in coming years.
