Z2 I Bascom Lamar Lunsford lunsford festival entertains all ages for eighth year Mars Hill was the scene of the world's most authentic festival of mountain music and dancing on October 3, 4, tsl 5. The Bascom Lamar Lunsford Festival. an annual occasion for the college. brought the Appalachian culture to life for the participants and spectators. On Thursday night smooth and clog dance teams of all ages competed in Moore Auditorium. Trophies were awarded in bothjunior and adult classes. Local and college musicians performed Friday night in a festival of traditional mountain music. Judges also presented trophies to the outstanding collegiate dance teams that evening. On Saturday activities from clawhammer and bluegrass banjo playing, guitar picking, and ballad singing to mountain dancing, smooth and clog. were performed and taught by the mountain people. Crafts, including quilts and mountain toys, were displayed at the crafts fair in front of the Country Boutique. That evening all those who had won trophies and special guests participated in the final night of the festival honoring Mr. Lunsford. All who attended left with a new song or at least a new way to sing an old song, a new dance step. and an old friendship revived. '7 ' 4. . 1 entertain and amuse the audience.
