Administration Dr. Fred B. Bentley President 22 From the beginning Mars Hill College has striven to keep within the vanguard of educa- tional progress in its area. lt began as a junior college in 1921 and in 1962, after approval of the North Carolina Baptist State Convention, became a senior college. Following five years of dedicated work, lVlars Hill received its senior college accreditation during the fall semester. lVlars Hill will now be able to devote full time to its new program of expansion, instituted by President Bentley, Emphasis on Excellence. This year the faculty and administration adopted a revision of the core curriculum for next year. The system will group the freshmen and sophomores in the same fundamental courses while many repetitious courses will be cut. This will provide more emphasis on courses necessary for the foundation of more advanced study. Each academic department will set forth the requirements for a major in the department. T
