FOOTBALL '58 The Lions found going rough this season as they clashed head-on with vengeful conference opponents eager to match the strength of the WCJCC Champions of 1957. Minus the services of many veteran performers due to graduation, Coach Don Henderson's fighting charges faced the season with visions of better days ahead. Frequently throughout the schedule, the young players were called upon to carry much of the burden. The earlier contests served as a preview of the power Coach Henderson can assemble on the football field in the future. Another host of veterans will leave the campus at the end of this sum- mer and their absence will be noted on the field, but, barring injuries, everything should go well. Evidenced by the eager participation and sincerity of the boys in the spring training, Mars Hill can look forward to a bright future. The young movement will be a year older - with its share of experience. On to another Mars Hill touchdown. Coach Henderson gives the team some last minute instructions. The annual Athletic Banquet of Mars Hill College got into full swing with the theme Gold in Them Thar Hills. Mr. Vernon Wood was Master of Ceremonies and introduced several speakers who were members of the faculty, including our president, Dr. Hoyt Blackwell, who welcomed the members of each sport team. Coach Don Henderson presented the coveted awards to Gene Hall, Conrad Keesecker, and Jerry Brown. Conrad Kecsecker receives Best Blocker award from Coach Henderson at the Athletic Banquet.
