Intramural Sports Let Students Run Off Steam G.A.A. - Where could you buy a lovable little animal candle? From any G.A.A. member, of course. Selling candles was the Girls Athletic Association's biggest money-making project. The proceeds from the candle sale, the two bake sales, and the Powderpuff Game financed the annual dance. Held in March, the dance had a '4Songs theme, with the theme song being Time in a Bottlei' and music by Father Maple. The seventy members included girls in grades ten through twelve who participated in either band, cheerleading, basketball, track or volleyball. Girlsg Dorma Eckstein, Treasurer, Girls. Mike Best, Pres., Boysg Kevin McGrath, Treasurer, Boys. Girls, Varsity Club began their activities this year with a stand at several of the football games. Then, to earn more money to pay for their sweaters and letters, they sold pictures of the powder- puff game to the student body. As Christmas time came around the club collected old toys, fixed them up and distributed them to the Childrenls Home. Headed by President, Karen Renfer, the club had a membership of about 50 girls, all of whom had earned a letter in some area of athletics - either playing or managing. Their counterpart, the Boys' Varsity Club, also raised money for letter jackets and athletic equipment. Projects included dances and the Donkey Basketball Game. The club was under the leadership of Mike Best, President, Jack Doman, Vice-President, Bill Crummy, Secretary, Bill Semler, Treasurer and Arno Thompson, Advisor.

Easter Bunn Hopped To A Rosie Homecomin Thespians - It's a bird! It's a plane! It's. . f' Y no, itis just another Thespian going through initiation. This year, the Mars Chapter of the International Thespian Society was kept quite busy with not only a Home- coming float, but also two hoagie sales, and a children's play as well. The group also attended the play, Prisoner of Second Avenue with the Theatre Arts class in Pittsburgh on December Sth. This year's officers included Karen Renfer, President, Ed Heltman, Vice-President, Maria Wegemer, Secretary, and Doug Bartley, Treasurer, with Marlin Clay, Sponsor. Stage Crew - First Row: Kathy Fetherbay, Kate Stoudt, Maria Wegemer, Mr. Clay, Linda Harmer, Karen Renfer, Joanne Hodge. Second Row: Ron Charlton, Gerry Dunlop, Doug Bartley, Ed Heltman, Jay Maihle, Bill Hornyak. Stage Crew - Lights! Camera! ' Action! - No matter what type of performance, Stage Crew was always there to lend a hand and to keep things moving smoothly. Comprised of only fourteen members, this group not only kept the various stage produc- tions running well, but also managed to clean the football field after each home game, create a float for Homecoming, and sponsor a dance during the winter. Despite all the work, the crew found time for relaxation at their annual banquet in June. Cheerleaders Compete In Quigley Contest Varsity Cheerleaders - Bottom: Bonnie Heusman, Captain. Middle Row: Betty Taylor, Julie Warman, Sue Dietrick, Rosie Smith. Top: Donna Green, Chris White, Jody Norton. Cheerleaders Y V-I-C-T-O-R-Y! Victory! Vic- tory! Is our cry! And indeed this was the plea of the 23 girls who cheered our Planet teams on and on. The cheerleaders had the enor- mous task of arousing school spiiit at the games and pep rallies. The cheerleaders really got the spirit moving the day of the Richland football game, for they decorated the student lounge in blue and gold, plastered the Walls with signs, stuck miniature footballs on each and every locker, and instigated so much noise at the pep rallies that the Whole school vibrated. The cheerleaders were divided into three squads: the Varsity, led by captain Bonnie Huesman and co-captain Rosemary Smith, the Junior Varsity, led by captain Pauline J euther and co-captain Kathy Molloy, Cboth of these squads were advised by Miss Charlotte Belichjg and the Junior High, led by captain Vicki Fowler and co-captain J an Wright, advised by Miss Moses. The team mascot, Mary Jackson, also helped the cheer- leaders encourage our teams to victory. This year all of the girls truly succeeded in pro- moting school spirit.
