The cheerleaders were divided into three squads: the Varsity, led by captain Bonnie Huesman and co-captain Rosemary Smith, the Junior Varsity, led by captain Pauline J euther and co-captain Kathy Molloy, Cboth of these squads were advised by Miss Charlotte Belichjg and the Junior High, led by captain Vicki Fowler and co-captain J an Wright, advised by Miss Moses. Out of a 51-O loss, our Planet team turned chaos into a well-timed, well-planned successful season of football. With an offense led by Paul Harbison and his dashing dragoons, they chalked up many a Planet point. The defensive dynamos had their share of Planet points, too! With upsets like Leechburg and Knoch, who would dare deny the boys respect as well as gratitude? The Leechburg game caused tears to many, tears of joy and pride, as our fellows blasted out the big Blue Devils. Knoch was a game where Knight fans stood around with their mouths gaping. What other high school can boast 'lWolfman Miller and f'Frankenstein Linn? With Crummy's speed, Best's drive, Linn's crushes, and McGrath,s kicking we were mighty foes to opponents. A 99-yard runback by Goglin sent hysteria among Planet supporters, as well as the scouts from future games. School spirit was at a peak the day of the Richland game. A blue and gold student lounge, signs cluttering the halls and lockers, and a rousing pep rally showed the team what kind of support the student body could generate. We lost, but just barely 112473. Coach Papik was quite pleased with the effort of all the players and staff to create such a successful team. Papik and the assistant coaches, Mark Feris, Bill Thewes, and Jack Tucek, deserve praise without end for helping to create such a team. Honors were in store for seven seniors, six juniors, and one sophomore, for they were nominated for outstanding achievement in high school football to Who's Who in High School Football. Now, the field is quiet and we must bid adieu to our senior heros: Herb Linn, Paul Marshall, Paul Harbison, Greg Veverka, Jim Porter, Bob Rollings, Kevin McGrath, Mike Best, Mark Goglin, Brian Bianchi, Gary Barkus, Rich Bogan, Bob Swarmer, and Ray Weiss. Farewell to our seniors, but greetings to our outstanding underclassmen such as Ernie Miller, Bob Peterson, Bill Crummy, Jack Doman, Tim McGrath, Jerry Hornyak, Mike Kletzli, Bill Semler, Bill Wagg, Mike Miller, Steve Ramella and many more. The 1974 season will prove a challenge that our boys will surely be able to handle. 44 Senior Football Players Kevin McGrath, Paul Marshall Rich Bogan, Mark Gogolin Greg Veverka, Brian Bianchi Those Not Pictured: Gary Barkus, Mike Best, Paul Harbison, Herb Linn, Bob Swarmer. This might seem disappointing but to Coach Tyler 'The season had more encouraging times than the records statef' Only 7 boys: Peter Butch, Bob Ganter, Steve Giallombar- do, Jerry Butch, Tim Hoffman, Roger Lawson, and Richard Giallombardo formed the squad. One out- standing runner, Tim Hoffman, consistently placed first for the team and went on to participate in the WPIAL finals at South Park where he placed 20th in a field of 72 with a time of 14:19. DANIEL BOGDANICH 898-2858 161 P . THROUGH THE EYES OF A SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL those were the days the good old days Where almost nothing matteredg except: Who would win the game? What was for lunch? When Would the dance start? Where was the party? the carefree days of being a nonchalant student turn to years then finally after a long struggle they end in THE SENIOR YEAR the best year - what with parties I homecoming parties f graduation pictures X parties I the prom X parties X caps and gowns I parties finally the sound of a familiar name then a tightly clenched piece of rolled up paper called a DIPLOMA and it is over. but before it ends - oh so much happens . . . no doubt the senior year is a truly fascinating one of being on top and gaining special privileges and priorities. behind that certain unbelievable feeling of being a senior the mind is experiencing some of the most profound thoughts WHERE AM I GOING? WHAT AM I GOING TO DO? WHAT IS IN THIS FOR ME? WHEN WILL THIS BE OVER? WHO AM I??? 164 sometimes these questions never reach their full perspectiveg but usually during the course of the senior year, whether it be in English or history class sitting in the principa1's office listening to parents or at a partyg the question comes alive for a brief second of utter realization. it is inevitable to every Question there need be a DECISION. right or wrong every senior must decide what is to come after graduation job college technical school service marriage nothing questions must be answered decisions must be carried out time is gone! GRADUATION the sunset of high school creeps up sooner than anticipated it is the last time ever to be a high school senior. the end is near. the glorious days are over. it is the end. it is sad. it is the end. the end. END!! never. NEVER!! it is just dawn - a fresh awakening - where the sun peeks over the horizon dawn . . . a new beginning . . . 165 W 5 166 4 5500 cu! ffsaa o I 'mul OO IO :ilu I .l.h'1..l .liz Q 4 Q svn OOO 9 ty ku.
