The Leap Year Dance start ed quite a few things, didn t lt Betsy Norton? The Sophomores had a class party where we finally made some of the boys dance conscxous We saw the Sophomore class well represented at the Prom and another year had been termm ated 1940 1941 What a year we had ahead of us' Our mam objective was to raise funds H1 order to make our banquet and Prom a success After weeks of strenuous practice, the play cast was prepared to perform and everyone was ob llged to sell tlckets Our advertising was a little out of the ordlnary wlth everyone, lnclud Ing the boys, wearing aprons The name of the play was Apron Strlng Revolt Lucky Room E had a half day vacation for sellmg the most tickets The play was a marvelous suc We dldn t reallze what acting ablllty we had Ill our fellow classmates Thls same year Eddle Held was our abl president, Stan Pnotrowskn vlce president, Florence Held, secretary, and Marlon Norton, treasurer A new addition to our class was Ray Socash, who can really make ITILISIC wlrh the trumpet Coming also to Mars High that year was a umque personallty ln the person of I loyd Slug Wrlght He dlsplayed h1s ablllty ln the unlor chapel program The reward for our toll durlng the first three years of hlgh school was materlallzed by the banquet and Prom We then real1zed why the previous ones were never forgotten by classes of other years Committees worked steadllv tlll the very last mxnute IH order to make the evemng a success Even Eddie Held dlscovered that glvmg a speech wasn t as exasperatlng as he had imagined and that rt didn t dlscourage has appetlte to a notlceable degree At the Prom our classmates appeared to be very dlf ferent personalities and the change was qulte mterestlng The class of 41 graduated and departed from Mars Htgh leavlng thelr places to be hlled by Individuals from our class We then had the responsxbllltles of Seniors Class og: cers were elected as follows Bill Nestor, presx dent, Ray Socash, vlce president, Florence Held and Marlon Norton continued as secre tary and treasurer, respectxvely Our presldent, B111 Nestor, was absent from school for about four weeks as he was confined in a hospltal as the result of an injury to h1s leg He returned wlth his same amlable manner and resumed his dutles as president This year we saw many of the Senior boys partncxpatmg m football and basketball We sat back and watched the unxors workxng de termlnedly to build up thelr treasury That xs one job we are happy to say lb over for us Many of the Seniors entered the Forensic con test and Marilyn ProH:1tt capably accompanied a large number of the solos The Senior Alumni Dance which IS held an nually during Christmas vacation was cancelled because of the unexpected quarantine We, of course, were greatly dlsappomted as nt IS one of the hlgh spots of the year, but, we took It wlth a smile Working continually the yearbook staff ac cumulated their maternal 1n order to make the yearbook one of perfection When Senxor plc proofs and when they flnally arrived, not know mg what to expect, we were undoubtedly shocked The Senior play showed the real talent nn our class and nt wnll be an unforgotten memory to all of us Its hard to realxze that we have completed this mu h of our llfe Can lf be that thls IS our commencement exerclse and that class nxght and all the other HHlShlI'lg touches are already over? Yes, lf IS true, and a strange sensatnon overcomes us as we look down at the diploma ln our hand This IS the goal we have tonled to reach for twelve years and have now achleved We re not exactly happy because we re through maybe even a lnttle sad, as weve had more than our share of fun, but we re happy because we have attamed our goal Can t you remember these few moments or perlods of the past? The Semor Class We are the class of 42 who for the past four years have together experienced many of the joys and sorrows of high school life Let s be ginnmg with September nineteen hundred and thirty eight return and review some of the high spots of these four years We entered Mars High as a Freshman class with approximately one hundred and fifty stu dents After four rather confusing weeks be coming acquainted with teachers classmates and classes we were initiated Initiation seems to be the first time Freshmen are acknowledged rather embarrassing Later vue elected the cla s officers Gale Garraux president Carolyn Gabosch vice president Irene Hill secretary and Tim Howard treasurer We didn t spon sor many activities that year other than some skating parties When spring descended upon us we suddenly realized that our first year of high school was practically over and that we really had passed first year Latin and that our special dishes we made in I-lome Economics lasses and had forced down were slowly im proving The boys made big plans to be foot ball and basketball heroes in the coming years Stan Piotrowski had already made unusual headway in football Sophomores no more were we called green Freshies' We took a much greater interest in serious in their 1ttitude toward football and basketball as they quickly learned the necessary in s and out s Four girls of our class assisted in the cheerleading with many Sophomores to back up the cheers We discovered that our . , V . . 7 ., . . , ' . c - . . 7 A . . 7 A 7 Y ' a ' 'Q by upperclassmen and then the procedure is school activities.
