FALL SPORTS Soccer Team Gains Valuable Experience Football Team Produces Winning Season The unit soccer team finished the 87 Fall season with a 500 record. Although the season was only two games long, there were many bright moments. In the game against Madison, defense was the major element. It was the aggressive play of Midn 24C Mur- phy and Midn 24C Sheehy that kept Marquette in the game. The team battled in a 1-1 deadlock for 90 minutes until the sheer finesse of the offensive team took over in the shoot out? With the expert goaltending of Midn 240 John Hollander and the sure shooting of Midn 24C Grzymkowski, Midn 24C Loughran and Midn 24C Ri- ley, Marquette received a well earned victory John The Hand 4 Hollander shows off his goalkeeping skills. Hoopsterts Successful Year The 1987-88 NROTC basketball season was a success in many ways. The season got off to a great start with the arrival of Cdr. Pierce in the Fall. ttHawkeye'i enthusiastically assumed the coaching duties and quickly procured new uniforms. The team began practice in November and beat Marquette Army a few times before Christmas. Second se- mester saw the team make strong showings at the Notre Dame Air Force and Purdue Sports Festival Tournaments, while defending their Mar- quette Army ROTC Tournament Championship. The team concluded the season with a 4th place finish in the Midwest NROTC Tournament at ' Great Lakes, IL. The leadership of the UC Midshipmen will be missed 4; next year. A strong nucleus of talent, however, will return. Midh. WC Wilczynski was selected the teams MVP. x . t, V A 8. .xe ,V x -. . x g QAXRV K4 xx. ' .
