Each month a board consisting of selected midshipman officers and the MOI, Major Wilson, convenes to determine who will receive the award. Midshipmen who have been nominated for the award appear before the board and answer questions fired at them from board members. This year saw the first female midshipman in recent history to receive the award, Midn 3K3 Tammy Snyder.
