Each month a board consisting of selected midshipman officers and the MOI, Major Wilson, convenes to determine who will receive the award. Midshipmen who have been nominated for the award appear before the board and answer questions fired at them from board members. This year saw the first female midshipman in recent history to receive the award, Midn 3K3 Tammy Snyder. Cook and Ens. Lohman. Marquette, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and the University of Iowa all had midshipmen who participated in the program and learned basic sea- manship, sail rigging and the mastery of the high seas' Many port calls were made to promote camaraderie among the shipmates. Mackinac was the hands-down favorite. Some Midshipmen were lucky enough to race the Guerre de Course in the Chicago-Mackinac race. Although Guerre de Course was sold to a private owner in November, MUNROTC acquired the Wild Onion in the Spring. Hopefully, SAILTRAMID '88 will be as adventurous and mem- orable as SAILTRAMID i87.
