,- 5 5 N Z it I . . i' A yearbook is primarily for seniors, a dedication to their diligence in at- taining the rank of ensign in the United States Navy. Of course, the industry does not lie solely with the midship- man, it also includes the stall who mold and guide the inexperienced freshman into a man capable of serving his coun- try and himself with credit and dignity. Typical of the new 4!c midship- man is W. T. Door, a graduate from your high school, who is just like you were not too long ago. Door is you, he is a prototype of every midshipman in the NROTC program. Door occupies a central place in this publication, and since he is just a caracature of you, it is obvious that the theme of this book is you, the most appropriate subject possible. The Porthole will follow you from those lirst awkward moments to that linal day when you receive your ensign bars. All your activities, drills, classes, cruises, and candid moments have made this book what it is. The Porthole staff has just pasted the pic- tures ing you are really responsible for this-a record of your accomplish- ments. The Porthole asks you to put yourself in W. T. Door's place and re- live those times which made you what you are. For those of you who are not seniors, much of this book will be dreams not memories. However, the book is as much yours as anybodysg you have lived much of this, too. That which you cannot attribute to your real experience, reflect upon-it is your guide for the future. ,,,1,u,.4,,.. f 7. .-, -, .pn ' L . .,' f.- if .
