NAVIGATIIN II It you happen to see a Hrotcee toting a portable library around the campus, don't jump to the conclusion that he is an eager brain hot on the trail of intellectual superiority; the chances are he is a member of that hapless group making up Lt. tjgt McLennon's celestial navigation classes tNS 5i. Those bulky volumes are merely the various alman- acs, tables, etc., that are envolved in the solu- tion of the problems Mr. M. has been known to sling around. Just What it all means is a secret that Messrs. Bowditch, Ageton, et a1., have managed to keep exceedingly well despite Mr. McLennon's valiant efforts to throw a little light on the subject. To most seafaring men, LCT would probably suggest some sort of landing craft, but not to the land-locked Hsalts of Wisconsin Avenue. When you add such choice tidbits as GCT, LAN, ZT, HD, GHA, LHA and numerous others, the total efiect makes the early days of the New Deal pale by comparison. It you doubt all this, consult Ray O'Connell, Don Borgert, Tom Mconnt and others, Who this semester have proved HA Tree Grows in Milwaukee . t :37, KA y '3st '1' '''''''''' ....... ;;;; ........ -- .94.; VNNM - W??? 7k'xxxg2. t. , ' .' x . - . , , . ?.g. ,-$..:.t :W .- - x'fzif'tix'pi 5:32.1' f.g lfitff 4' :' . .:.-::.'Q'. . yyyyyyyyy .-... .7,.., '-,-. This semester at Marquette, Lt. ,jg Miller has been dispersing nautical Hknow-how to all. To some of the older hands such as Wally Pietilla, Bob Schmitzer and George Bergmann, it's all child's play, but to those of us Who have had to go out in the rain to get our feet wet, the course provides Ct line of chatter to go along With our victory medals. Along With such prosaic matters CIS Naval Organization, ship handling, ground tackle, semaphore, flag hoist, etc. and etc., the course includes nomenclature of radio communica- tions Which. aids in understanding all the Army Air Corps movies. The films also pro- vide CI chance for CI little extra Hsack duty. The boys spent nearly half a semester on the HRules of the Road but still haven't found the answer to the biggest question in the mind of every MU sailorehow to cross Wisconsin Avenue Without endangering life and limb! I After instructors Lt. jg Miller, Lt. 09 Hilde- brand, and Lt.-Comdr. Crawford had rendered lectures in Naval Administration, Lt. Sorvik began giving instruction in Naval Law, disci- pline, court-martial procedure, military govern- ment, International Law, and principles of leadership for young officers.
