REGIMENTAL For the first time in over two years the Mar- quette Naval Unit operated on a regimental basis. With the large influx of aviation train- ees, a complete reorganization at the pre-ex- istent set-up was necessary. Under the new system, the regiment was divided into two battalions headed by a regimental statt. Bat- talion A consisted of the new V-S trainees quartered at Stratford Arms and D Battalion 1., was composed at NROTC and V-12 students housed at Breaks Hall. Lt-Camdr. P. C. Kelsey acted as Commissioned Regimental Cam- rnander and commanding Battalions A and B were Lt. I. H, Stowe and Lt. tng D. C. Reichert, respectively. The student Regimental Commander under the new set-up was Edward L. Jennings from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Other members at his staff were: Regimental Sub- Cammander Leslie Wise tV-TZT, Regimental Adjutant Richard Peeler tNROTCT, and Regi- mental Aide D. Wells tV-ST. The purpose at the regimental staff was to serve as a liaison agency between the two battalions and the unit command, also to function in command et joint formations and administer countless tJ routine activities affecting both battalions. The WBBAANIZTIIN regimental and battalion student officers also stood duty as student GOD. The job of actually directing the battalion organization in such routine matters as tarma- tians, drills, inspections, and liberty policy tell on the shoulders of the student atticers com- prising the two battalion statts. Battalion A was headed by Battalion Commander William Snider, Battalion Sub-Commander Ralph R. Sjoberg, Battalion Adjutant Russell G. May, Battalion First Lieutenant Herbert L. Beierle, and Battalion CPO Herman Berzan. Battalion 3 officers were Battalion Commander Henry T. Geib, Battalion Sub-Commander John Crim, Battalion Adjutant Tahn Starbady, Battalion First Lieutenant John Dvorak and Drum and Bugle Corps Commander Fred Groatendarst. Through the ettarts at the student officers it was possible to maintain an etticient and well- disciphned organization throughout the semes- ter. An additional accomplishment of the three organizational staffs was the positioning at a basketball team as consolation champions in the unit basketball tournament in April. The Htive iron Inen , Wise, Geib, Peeler, Sjoberg, and Dvorak, after a bad start in the opening game, ended the tourney in a whirl-wind at cage fury. ........

CIMPANY I IATTALIIN PLatnun I Beginning the semester with Cl mere 32 men, the First Platoon ot the First Company steadily diminished until it became the smallest of the platoons. This iisalty group is comprised mainly of third and fourth term men, ten of Whom were here last semester, and twelve Who came from Oberlin. included in the group are two eager USN men, Beyrodt and Kommenich. Platoon Commander is H. L. Merr and the MPO is I. E. May. That the men of this platoon are eager to fly is shown by the fact that several of them have private flying licensesd 32 others build model airplanes! Xillliylzlhe PLatmm II HAh craves to aviate is c: well-known by- word of the Hbuzz boys of A-lZ. Forty of them had aspirations to fly; however, the little 'ole ruptured duck has been pretty tempting so seven men have left the ranks for general duty. To be designated HHonor Platoon has be- come CI habit With the boys since they have c1 string of five straight weeks. The rewards of liberty and chow-line leaders have made the boys ngt on the ball . As to the athletic prowess of the platoon, it succeeded in capturing second in the intra- mural basketball tournament. tx:?i ...... ........
