Dean of the six CPO's at Marquette is CGM W. 11. Jackson Who enlisted in the Navy 42 years ago. He reported to this activity in September 1940 When the Unit was opened and during the elapsed time he has, in addi- tion to helping gunnery classes, coached the pistol and rif1e teams, turning out Winner after Winner. He is a rather quiet man, yet it is. certain that With two wars behind him, he has many tales at the sea and wars to relate. CBM H. M. Drake was With the Asiatic Fleet before coming to Marquette. This is the Chief's last year of a 20 year hitch and he says that When it is over he is going back to Ohio to raise chickens. However, his latest word is that he is getting a job running a movie pro- jector for a theatre in Cincinnati. CQM 1-1. A. Redfield came to Marquette in December 1944, after five years at sea. Before that he had been in retirement for 13 months. The HChiet enlisted in the Navy in 1922 after 10 IO two and one-ha1t years in the Army. During his first tour of duty, he served 11 years in China With the Asiatic Fleet. Before reporting to Marquette, CSM G. A. Oswald served aboard a battlewagon in the Atlantic and aboard a cruiser in the Pacific. His campaign ribbons speak for the rest of his accomphshments. For four and one-halt years, CGM 1. E. Dugan, better known as W C. Fields Dugan' , served aboard a minelayer in the Pacific. 13e- tore Marquette, the Hstar of Ships Company's softball team saw the Gilberts, Aleutian 1s1ands and Solomon activities, partaking in many bit- ter battles. CY D. Stankovic enlisted in the Navy in July 1934. He served aboard several ships in the Pacific. He was at Samoa, Saipan and Peari Harbor, and reported to this Unit in November 1945. LT. jg RICHARD THOMPSON Lt. jg Richard Thompson, c1 newcomer to the Athletic Department, really goes in for Iudo. Ask anyone in one of his classes. Maybe that is Why he was With the Naval Group- China in the interior of China, attached to guerrilla forces there. Lt. Thompson entered V-12 in 1943 and was commissioned in 1944. SHAFFER Probably the busiest man in the Unit is Lt. Russell A. Shaffer, Unit dentist. Lt. Shatter came to Marquette in November 1945 after 22 months of duty at Great Lakes. A1though his stay here has been pleasant, Mr. Shaffer reports that his discharge this sum- mer Will be well-received. Dreskin. A graduate of Tukme University, he received his commission in 1942. During the war he served in c: PT squadron and later aboard cm LST which participated in the Philippine invasion. 'S'AWESE: LT. jg BENJAMIN D. SISSON Disbursing officer of the Unit is Lt. 1g Sisson Who is c: native of Wisconsin. He received his commission after Ci short term of V-12 school- ing C11 Notre Dame, being sent to Newport, R 1., for commissioning. Before coming to Marquette he served 21 months aboard the USS WREN. An extra CIC- Complishment here is his work as softball pitcher for Ship's Company.

The office staff of ship's company includes four yeomen-two chiefs and two third class petty officers. Only Wave on the staff is Miss Ioan Hauke, CY, who has been stationed here since September 1943. Miss Hauke, whose home is in Whitefish Bay, came here from Cleveland where she was attached to the Naval Bureau of Supplies and Accounts. Her future plans consist of becoming a bride soon after she is discharged this summer. iiShort and stocky best describes Delbert Mick, Y 3K1, who hails from Clarksburg, W. Va. Coming here as as ZMC in October 1945, he was advanced to his present rate in April. Del, who is married, has been in the Navy for two years and expects to be discharged in July. John Bushnell, Y 3 Ho, has been stationed here since April. Eighteen months of overseas service are behind him, during which time he was attached to Naval Hospitals on Espirito Santo, New Caledonia, Okinawa and Gdam. After his discharge in lune, he plans to attend college in his home town, Kansas City, Mo. Mrs Mary Ann Tuchsherer, civil service em- ployee, who serves as secretary to Lt. C-mdr. Crawford, is also shown in the above picture 1 23 STIREKEEPEBS Paul Mueller, SKD 2k: is originally from Sioux Falls, S. D. He has been around a bit before coming to Marquette. He trained with the Army at Fort 0rd, Calif., and served with the military government on Okinawa from April until September 1945, attached to the 10th Army and First Marine Division. He came to Marquette in January 1946. The other man in disbursing is lack Hayden, SKD ZMC, from Minneapolis, Minn. He served on the cruiser Montpelier and Cafne to Mar- quette March 6,1946. More familiar than the disbursing end is clothing and small stores, although possibly less appreciated. This department usually does a great deal of work as any Unit man will attest, having worked on a smallstores work- ing party. 'NY Bob Norby, SK 1 k hails from Minneapolis, Minn Serving in the South Pacific under Ad- miral Halsey, he came to Marquette 1n sep teinber 1945. Bob Chapman, SK 27c, is from Hau'ghton Lake, Miohq and has been at Mar- quette longer than any of the group of store- keepers. He was stationed at Great Lakes before coming to Marquette.
