SORVIK From sixteen months in the Pacific during Which he skippered an LCT Which participated in the original assault on Leyte in the Philip- pines, to a variety of duties here at Marquette, Lt. Sorvik has assumed many different roles in his naval career. Miller at La Crosse, Kans, is a product of the Navy V-7 program. After grad- uating from Kansas State College, he attended Midshipman School in Chicago, receiving his commission in December 1943. Reichert, With the ambition and pep that a PT boat officer might be expected to have, has ruled physical training classes with an iron hand and always preserved the Htwinkling eye. Through his direction, the Unit was able to complete many intramural tournaments and pursue a rigorous training program Which greatly bettered the physical condition of the individuals. With his height and a shiny Ford convertible, he is easily picked out on the campus. A graduate of Yale NROTC in 1944, Mr. McLennan had duty on PT craft in the Pacific prior to reporting to Marquette in October 1945. Mecklenburg is our szecu- tive Officer and as such is the ngiding hand in the affairs of the station, which he handles in a iitrue Navy manner. The HExec is a USN officer with a highly commendable rec- ord of service. Kelsey who started his naval career in 1940 as one of the first V-7 trainees. He reported to Mar- quette in November 1944 from forty months service aboard the USS Boise Which was at Guadalcanal and in the Solomons. As an instructor at this station he has taught Damage Control, Ordnance, Gunnery, and Aviation. .1 U LT.-CMDR. 1. R. CRAWFORD Lt-Crndr. Crawford has the distinction of being stationed at this activity longer than any other officer. He is a veteran of World War 1 during which he served for two and one-ha1t years. During the period between the two wars Mr. Crawford was associated with the University of Maine, where he was director of research. He became Educationa1 Officer at Marquette in 1une 1943. LT. JOHN H. STOWE Lt. Stowe came to Marquette this semester after seeing service at Guam and various other stations. He entered the service in 1943, being a teacher of mathematics and physics before his commissioning. His teaching duty was at Appleton, Wis. At present, his chief duty is commissioned Battalion officer at the Stratford. He has been foremost in the organization of the V-S students.

LT. jg RICHARD THOMPSON Lt. jg Richard Thompson, c1 newcomer to the Athletic Department, really goes in for Iudo. Ask anyone in one of his classes. Maybe that is Why he was With the Naval Group- China in the interior of China, attached to guerrilla forces there. Lt. Thompson entered V-12 in 1943 and was commissioned in 1944. SHAFFER Probably the busiest man in the Unit is Lt. Russell A. Shaffer, Unit dentist. Lt. Shatter came to Marquette in November 1945 after 22 months of duty at Great Lakes. A1though his stay here has been pleasant, Mr. Shaffer reports that his discharge this sum- mer Will be well-received. Dreskin. A graduate of Tukme University, he received his commission in 1942. During the war he served in c: PT squadron and later aboard cm LST which participated in the Philippine invasion. After being discharged in July, Lt. Dreskin p1ans to enter the medical research field. His family resides in New Or1ecms, La. xx 5' S I. '- Z-rK h x sx I .655 :1th 'x' '-; . . 'S'AWESE: LT. jg BENJAMIN D. SISSON Disbursing officer of the Unit is Lt. 1g Sisson Who is c: native of Wisconsin. He received his commission after Ci short term of V-12 school- ing C11 Notre Dame, being sent to Newport, R 1., for commissioning. Before coming to Marquette he served 21 months aboard the USS WREN. An extra CIC- Complishment here is his work as softball pitcher for Ship's Company.
