On such occasions it is o natural inclination for the older heads to want to give last minute advice and coun- sel, to preach a little and offer the assistance of longer experience to the young graduates. Knowing you men Who are soon to graduate and be commissioned, my inclination runs in another vein. My message to you is one of confidence and faith in each and every one of you. You have demonstrated, to a man, that you have the character and ability which make good citizens and fine novol officers. You leave school at o time When the affairs of the world and the notion are perhaps more critical than during the war. The need was never greater for sound thinking citizens who I mt believe in the American way of lite and Who Will take positive action and leadership in maintaining and protecting that system of Iiv- ing. These responsibilities of good citizenship toll heavily on such young men as you Who have the intelligence and the benefit of good training, both academic and spiritual. I om fully confident that you Will assume those re- sponsibilities of good citizenship as you have accepted your responsibilities as students. In concluding this farewell message to you, I know of no better way than to quote from the commissions you have earned and Will soon receive: HReposing speciol Trust and Con- tidence in your Patriotism, Valor, Fidelity and Abilities , I wish you Godspeed and every success Which you so richly deserve.
