intramural exuberance and pigskin thunder Mud-stained “surfers” in reversed sleeveless sweatshirts, torn football jerseys, striped T-shirts, hitching to the stadium. Hustling onto the field, the players wait for late comers. A whistle blows and another game begins. Desk-weary muscles stretch in action across the field ... a wobbling pigskin finds its mark in a belly clutch. Rubber sneakers pound the thinly turfed ground, halting in bruising clashes of non-padded bodies ... a sudden scramble for a loose ball, recovered amidst a cluster of outstretched hands. “Pass! Fake to halfback, left end, down and in.” Quarterback barkings mingling with defensive heckling. The ball spirals beyond desperately reaching hands and Inninces wildly on the grass. Another attempt, another half until the final whistle sets the score. Tired Ixxlies — Monitor Monsters, Rabbits, Sigma Phi's — straggle off the field and head for trophies, showers and beer. 24
