We need to advance intellectually, morally, and socially to meet the developments of sci- ence and technology. Here Marquette University finds its opportunity and responsibility to provide the leaders who, with Christian values, can master the challenge of tomor- row. The world is not static, nor are its problems. Catholic education must anticipate the changing needs of a moving society and move forward to lead, to change while still hold- ing firm to the underlying, unchanging values founded in one Truth, one God. We see this forward movement around us in the Marquette Plan, in curriculum changes, in new courses, in the general broadening of opportunity and in the increasing demands made upon the students. We see it, we feel it, we believeg we seek to understand and to act with wisdom and courage. Winston Churchill expressed it this way in World War II, and his words still hold meaning: Do not let us speak of darker days. These are great days-the greatest days our country has ever lived, and we must all thank Cod that we have been allowed, each of us accord- ing to our stations, to play a part in making these days memorable in the history of our race. So Marquette moves on its way, the students' way, proclaiming a unified creed of wisdom, reason, and faith, which together will'make a better present, a better future, and a better world.
