Graduate work provides a much deeper understanding of the facts in a field of study. a real introduction into high level scholarly work, and training in the techniques needed to make new contribu- tions to the fund of knowledge. Accordingly, the Graduate school supports re.s'eurr'lz projects throughout the university. This year approximate- ly 510,000 was given by the Graduate school to people beginning in the research field. Projects are as varied as the branches of knowledge. A research project in the psy- chology department studied the effects of music on the emotions. A chenistry department project studied boron hydrides. Government agencies and private corporations have been responsible for more than if5l.000.000 in grants to the Graduate school, In March. the National Science foun- dation gave the school approximately 353,000 to support scientific research.

Milwaukee was chosen as the site for several research studies within the College of Business Administration because it is a typi- cal city. The Eliot Fitch foundation awarded the school 510,000 to study industrial location factors in Milwaukee. An 58.500 grant from the Domestic Engineering corporation was used in a study of local institutions concerned with housing and feeding facilities. The Metropolitan Study commission gave the college 55.500 for a study of industrial growth and the anticipated economic gap between receipts and expenditures of local government.
