“DON'T STOP BELIEVING”’ ns oe 0) a The 1983 Homecoming started off en ' “aa Monday with 50’s Day. From greased hair and cigarettes to poodle skirts and saddle shoes. Shauna Manka and Ken Russell were the couple that was cool. On Tuesday, everyone dressed up in their finest clothes and their neatest hat. Melanie Holtan, Kevin Hutsell, Shauna Manka, and Derek Nissen were the winners for this day. Wednesday took the school to the 4077 M A S H. Our winners were Tracy Ortegren, Mrs. Gay, and Todd Danhauer. Everyone went nerd on Thursday with Shauna Manka and Blake Sanderson being the best nerds, Thursday night, the Marquette Cubs fired up with the annual bonfire. Pep talks, cheers, and chants built up the excitement for Friday night. School spirit started on Friday with Blue and Gold Day. The winners were Lisa Ortegren and Ken Russell. The after- noon Homecoming ceremony was opened by MC Blake Sanderson. The 4983 King and Queen were Todd Danhauer and Glenda Nutzman. Attendants were Kevin Hutsell and Rhonda Joyner. A parade topped off the afternoon. The winners of the float competition were: 4st place - 7th and 8th grade, 2nd place - sophomores, and 3rd place - seniors. The festivities ended with the Cubs winning 54 to 14! Top: Royalty in the parade. Middle: 50’s Day! Bottom: Spit curls are back. Right: Nerds (as usual)!

STATE CHAMPIONS! Hutsell follows blocks of Danhauer and Russell Steam rolls out of Cub’s huddle Cub’s defense shows its strength The Cubs came out as the number two preseason pick, they then fell to number eight after their first game which they lost to Benedict. After the loss, the Cubs picked up the slack and began rolling over opponents until the season came to an end. The end came with the best football record ever in Marquette High history and their first ever Class D-2 State Championship. The Cubs also received many other awards for their successful season. Kevin Hutsell was 1st Team All State, Co-Captain, 14st Team All Conference (Defense and Offense), and voted team captain. Todd Danhauer was 41st Team All State Offense, 1st Team All Conference (Defense and Offense), and voted team captain Lynn Menke was 4st Team All State (Offense) and ‘1st Team All Conference (Offense). Ken Russell was 4st Team All Conference (Defense), 2nd Team All Conference (Defense), and All State Honorable Mention. Mike Johnston was ‘st Team All Conference (Offense). Gary Young was ‘1st Team All Conference (Defense). The championship game was voted the number one sports story of the 1983 sport’s year by the Grand Island Independent, with Marquette being the only team in the state to have three rushers over 1000 yards each
