They learned to read and enjoyed spending their extra time reading a good book. They really enjoyed reading along with their new reading tapes. In math, they learned to add and subtract, besides counting money and telling time This year the first graders had pen pals in Douglasville, Georgia. They received Christmas stockings and candy canes from their first grade pen pals along with letters. The first graders sent them cards and letters and for Valentines, they sent woven Valentine baskets with a lollipop. This was a wonderful experience for them. The first graders got to be involved in a new language program called T.A.L.K. We had lots of fun and even had Roberta Stiles, Project Director, from Rockford, illinois, come to observe our class. In Science the first graders took care of two hermit crabs, Princess Stephanie and Lazy Jones, and plants as part of their study of living things. Along with all of their studying, we had holiday parties and are looking forward to planning our field trips. CLASS OF 1993 First graders being their “‘real’’ selves!

They delved into alphabet letters, books, numbers, social studies, art, science and health, P.E. and music. A big highlight of the year was helping with the move into the new elementary wing. We are enjoying the use of the new facilities. Holiday parties were made lots of fun with the games and treats supplied by party mothers.
