Our Homecoming float had a ceme- Tracy Skidmore tery with the theme of “Put ‘em Khristy VanBibber under,’’ and was persuaded down the streets of Marquette. Sledding one Saturday afternoon, then pizza to warm us, was a winter activity just for fun. We plan on having a slave days for another money making project. We will be busy planning the main happening for spring, the Junior-Senior Banquet. The American History class, alll juniors, managed to gorge down eight pies one day during class, it sure beats a lecture on the Civil War! “Pleased ta Meetcha” is the title of the class play we are going to produce this spring. Our most successful money-making project was selling posters Concessions, which we had three times, are always a lot of work; but a good source of income for our class treasury Our Homecoming Fioat took first place in the parade. The theme, ‘Wash out the Bulidogs,”’ featured a bulidog in a bath tub As we move up the ranks of being upper classmen, we are anticipating the selection of our class rings in April. The other spring occasion that we are looking forward to is our class party. . They began the year in the Art room and have now settled into their half of the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade room of the new addition. Some of the things we have enjoyed doing this year are as follows: “Doing science experiments,’ said Dara Jacobsen and Jeri Russell “Being on the game committee for holidays,”’ said Vickie Montgomery and Teri Paup. “Writing limericks in Language,”’ said Penny Andersen and Tamera Heuson. Of course, Our one big event of the year was moving to our new room. We have planned our school parties, having a commit- tee for each party chosen from our room. Mrs. Hazel Hill substituted for Mrs. Creech. Herb Bankson was our volunteer. In our Math Classes, each student is trying to become a “wizard” in giving correct answers to the addition and subtraction facts in second grade; in third grade, the multiplication and division of facts. “A Bunch of Golden Keys is Mine” was on the lips of the second and third grade citizens. Each key is a good manners key and it opens the door of Politeness. What do you know about Marquette? is On one of the bulletin boards. Each student has put on an information fact about Marquette of long ago or in the present time. Who is the oldest male and female resident in Marquette? Did you know Marquette once had a flour mill? When Marquette celebrates its centennial this summer, the second and third grade youngsters will be enthusiastic boosters! We celebrated Nebraska’s 115th birthday, March 41, with a blue and gold birthday cake. In Social Studies class we are learning about our state, nation, and the world. An electrician talked to us about his profession on Friday, March 12. He was in charge of wiring, etc., for the new addition to the building. Our cursive writing improved. We used the d’Nealion Method for four years, in Marquette Schools. The Grand Island Schools thought they were the only elementary school in the state using this method. This statement was published in the Grand Island Independent. A second grade student wrote a letter to the editor stating the status of Marquette. One student's most vivid memory is the immense amount of fire drills they had. Amy Young Sometimes we work sornetimes we don’t. Taking after your brother, Amy? They learned to read and enjoyed spending their extra time reading a good book. They really enjoyed reading along with their new reading tapes. In math, they learned to add and subtract, besides counting money and telling time This year the first graders had pen pals in Douglasville, Georgia. They received Christmas stockings and candy canes from their first grade pen pals along with letters. The first graders sent them cards and letters and for Valentines, they sent woven Valentine baskets with a lollipop. This was a wonderful experience for them. The first graders got to be involved in a new language program called T.A.L.K. We had lots of fun and even had Roberta Stiles, Project Director, from Rockford, illinois, come to observe our class. In Science the first graders took care of two hermit crabs, Princess Stephanie and Lazy Jones, and plants as part of their study of living things. Along with all of their studying, we had holiday parties and are looking forward to planning our field trips. CLASS OF 1993 First graders being their “‘real’’ selves! Coach Abele was happy with the leadership that everyone showed throughout the season. He was also pleased with the hard work and the determination. What about next year? Coach Abele thinks the season looks promising. With a group of kids who are willing to work hard and show the determination to want to win, the season looks to be successful!
