Honor’s Convocation - May 9, 1978 LZ Perfect attendance awards: 3rd graders, Kim Swanson, Michelle Swanson; 6th graders, Todd Danhauer, Rhonda Olson and 7th Rathjen; 4th graders, Belinda Berck, Donna Menke; 5th grader, Brad — grader, Christine Blum. Dr. Melvin Zichek presents the 78 National Honor Society members: Bill Carlson, Roxane Andersen, Ron Dickinson as Mrs. Beulah Widga looks on. Roxane Andersen signs her name to the National Honor Society scroll as Dr. Melvin Zichek watches. Seven elementary and one secondary students received awards for perfect atten- dance for the entire 77-78 school year. Honor convocation was held at 2:30 pm in the gym with all students in attendance. Athletic awards for football, volleyball, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls track were made by respective coaches. Musical awards were presented by Mr. Larry Decker. Mr. Decker also announced senior Ron Dickinson as the recipient of the most valuable musician award. This award was based on a vote by fellow musicians. College scholarships for Ron Dickinson and Greg Ellenwood were announced by Mr. Steve Jacobsen. Mrs. LaVonne Hutsell presented awards to the annual staff members and announced next year’s annual staff. The convocation was concluded with the announcement of the 1978 National Honor Society members from Marquette High School. Susan Kauffman receives a musical award from Mr. Larry Decker, music instructor.

. i Randy Hutsell Julie Kauffman and Laura Menke concentrate Not a ghost writer but a headless writer on the MHS annual staff. Rhonda 77-78 Editor on the task of designing layouts. Nutzman ignores it all and continues working. Annual Staff Works Throughout 77-78 In September the nine-member annual staff began the task of planning the annual and selling ads to help pay for it. Many long hours were spent selling ads in Aurora, Central City and Grand Island as well as Marquette. Next they designed layouts and took pictures. By March 17 half of the annual was completed. The sponsor, editor and co-editor took the completed pages to Marceline, Missouri and while there toured the publishing plant. At awards convocation each member of the staff received an “M” award and an annual pin in recognition of their efforts. A new idea was tried this year. Upon arrival of the annuals an autographing party was held at the school. The annuals were distributed and ie refreshments were served. Laura Menke struggles with copy while Jackie Hutsell helps?? Busy Year for F.H.A. F.H.A. Week was held February 12-18 with the girls doing someth- ing thoughtful for others as well as for themselves. Other activities accomplished throughout the year included Family Craft Night, a pizza party, a box social, play school, and having adoptive grandparents from Central City’s Long Term. Money raising projects included a slave auction, and salad supper. Many of the girls attended District and State Conventions this year. An Honor Chapter Award was received by the local Chapter at the 77 State Convention.
