In sincere appreciation for his ten years spent in his God-sent work with the Church in Oklahoma, we, the Senior Class of 1958, dedicate this Volume XVII of the Marque, to Bishop Eugene J. McGuiness. After answering God's call, he was or- dained on May 22, 1915, in Philadelphia. He then went to Chicago, doing much work in the Extension Society. ln 1938, he was called to be Bishop of the Diocese of Raleigh, North Carolina, and was trans- ferred to Oklahoma in 1944 where he be- came full Bishop in 1948. Administering the sacraments of Con- firmation and Communion, celebrating the Golden Jubilee, and building for the Church are only a few of the ways in which he endeared himself, not only to the mem- bers of his Church, but to all the people of Oklahoma. During recent years Marquetters were privileged to find their revered bishop not infrequently offering Holy Mass at a side altar in Christ King Church. On a gray December morning, in 1957, God made l-lis last call on our beloved Bishop McOuiness, drawing him homeward. Pauli' 5

QM X X FROM A D A M TO JZ? A uranium atom is an awesome thing, inestimably powerful. It holds energies yet to be unleashed and mysteries still secret. How much greater potential and responsibility for the good of man does an atom of Christian student life hold. This tiny particle with Christ as its nucleus has three gyrating electrons identifiable as social life, athletics, and studies. ln this smallest unit of Christian life lies power for peace - among nations, with self and God. When this atom splits -when the Christian stu- dent dies to adolescence and lives to maturity, it will set up a chain reaction with surrounding atoms of human life to generate that power which alone can save the world.
