Instead of bidding a fond farewell Instead of waving a sad good-bye And trying to smile with a tear in my eye. I bid you — “Come along with me. ” “Ride my magic carpet of imagery. ” We see the past. Our days at Marquette — first and last. Some parade past in colors light and cheery. Or stumble by us dark and dreary. All the tears shed like bright rivers twisting Memories rise against the tide of time resisting . . . Always there persisting; In our minds existing. Maybe our days weren’t all the best. But who said life was easy? Don’t turn your back on all the rest. Don’t yet close life’s brave treasure chest. We have yet to face, after graduation, life’s ultimate test! Have we learned how best to live? That life’s a game of take and give? Have we made our choices clear? Do we know what we hold dear? Have our friends at Marquette High taught us true and not a lie? That true and real friendship cannot die? Have we learned that real maturity lies in one’s own ability To get up after each defeat and try a little harder, to each challenge meet? The future — well, who can say? What will come with each new day. I’ve learned that mortals cannot often see beyond what others appear to be. Remember friends That at all ends A new beginning springs.
