Ufa Is fr Journey Life is a journey; it begins as a mystery Each step an experience, always something to learn. So many new faces go by in a flash - Today they ' re realities; tomorrow fond memories. You reach out to others - begin to explore. You learn to be a part of many things, And you leave so many things behind. Part of yourself stays and part of you goes. So begin this very moment and don ' t look back. There ' s so much to be lived - so much to enjoy; Things to remember and things to forget. Through smiles and tears We must keep moving along. But stop now and then to remember . . . Carolyn Claxton ' 70 I T PLOR R — 1 970 2 MAROUETTE HIGH SCHOOL ALTON, ILLINOIS R4CU0V FACULTY What is a teacher? A smile in homeroom? A loud voice in typing class? A new idea about Shakespeare? Not really, A teacher is a person. What kind of person? A friend? An enemy? A patient sigh that says Let ' s go over it once more. ' ? All of these are possibilities. But the real meaning of ' teacher ' is sometimes hidden, After all, a teacher is what you let him be. - Molly Reilly ' 7 0 3 SISTER LOUISE Latin REV. A few steps to either side determines your joy or misery. Keep to the middle until you know, which path is right for you. Determination is what you ' ll need. Attain this and win a future of happiness. Molly Reilly 70 JuMim ' 7i 8 Cof ko Me ' 72 PiesJuwGn ' 73 Life is like a race, faster, harder ... Life is like a basketball game. With players and rules never the same. With different faces coming each year. And victories which always seem near. Each team takes its turn going down in defeat. And learning to lose is a challenge to meet. Life too is made up of ups and downs. We learn to meet these with smiles, not frowns. Life is a game in which all must take part Which should be faced with love in one ' s heart. It ' s how you accept what comes your way That makes a winner, whatever the play. It ' s often a smile from someone who’s near you. A cheery hello from a friend. A favor done out of noth- ing but kindness. And the songs of the birds; the wind blowing through the trees. One little flower, stand- ing bravely alone, yet showing the delicate beauty of God. It’s realizing the joy of giving; the joy of having friends. It ' s a colorful hillside set against the clear blue sky. The waving tail of a kite on a windy day. JOHN JOHNSON JO ANN KERN 26 The bubbling of a nearby stream; the continuous gushing of a waterfall. It’s the beauty of the sun aga inst an orange and yellow sky. The sound of seagulls flapping their wings; waves slapping against the shore. The quiet of a church; the feeling of inner peace. The smell of flowers, grass, grass, and trees; the feel- ing of being part of this greatness. And because of this God gave us these things. This is LOVE! And LIFE revolves around LOVE! D.
