May I suggest, therefore, that you make every effort to expand your experience. Do not become so entrenched in your life ' s work at the expense of touching other horizons. Best Wishes; Good Luck. Dr. William C. Capriotti Principal Members of the Class of 1986: Perhaps it is fitting that my remarks to the Class of 1986 touch upon the tragedy that befell the crew of the Challenger on January 28, 1986. The fact that Christa McAuliffe, a high school teacher, was on the ill-fated craft lends greater meaning to the tragedy. Christa McAuliffe is the forerunner of those persons who would establish a balance in the space program. Heretofore, those sent into space were for the most part engineers, scientists, technologists. Without their contributions, we would not have advanced so rapidly in the area of technology. However, man must not become so obsessed with science and technology that he loses his sense of humanity. Christa said, “I touch time; I teach. What can be more humanitarian than to teach. What can be more human than to dare to step beyond one dimensional living. Christa dared. Christa took the risk. She not only touched time, but she touched mankind. 18
