MEMORIES threads and threads weave up our lives . threads of experiences, wools of frustration, silks of joy . they be- come us, yet they are never static and never the same for any two of us we are woven into our tapestries .we are the weavers and everything that we go through and ev- erything that we feel, see, and taste goes into the endless creation of these tapestries that is what we have been doing in the past three years of our lives . . and perhaps, too, our tapestries are a little bit woven together because of this A.T. The goal we bled, sweated, worked, and strived for with every fiber was squashed and taken from us, pulled away just out of sight but close enough so we could hear others celebrating, cheering. But in striving for the mountain peak we were brought together like a puppet’s string. We shared out minds, pleasures, and tears. We won together and then, in the end, were crushed together. We were true friends, not a Hi, Bob” but brothers; we thought, dreamed, and prayed for the same goal. We felt the same pain as our beautiful balloon floated into the sun. Soon we’ll go our separate ways into the endless caverns of life but in some small way at some time, we’ll all wonder, “what if? what if . ” but it’s gone now and possibly a tear, the same kind that clouded our eyes that day, will again block our paths. We lost, we lost but maybe we did win. Maybe we dreamt too much, maybe we didn’t have a chance, but we gained. We understand better now, maybe the highs and lows, the victories and defeats, the good times and bad, made us all better men, better capable of understanding life. The time passed quickly and slowly — as fast as it takes for the ball to hit the net but as slow as the play is replayed in your mind. Everyone left a part of themselves on the field, the best and the worst, the heroes and the goats, but we’re all there, every one of us, dreaming, working, sweating, dying, and our impossible dream is being scraped off the bottoms of younger spikes.
