UR ADMINISTRATION SPEAKS. I extend my congratulations and best wishes to you, the members of the Class of 1959, on the successful completion of cer- tain prescribed courses and curricular offer- ings at Mar pie -Newtown. Your high school graduation is an import- ant event. You will refer to the date of your graduation time and time again as the be- ginning of a new series of events in your life. This new series of events will include college experiences for some of you and work experiences for others. It includes for each of you participation in the events of the com- munity and of the world as a young adult. Your high school preparation of this role terminates with commencement. Now it is up to you to put this preparation to work as you continue your education or enter one of the occupations as a career. I invite you to call on your school for any assistance which we can render in helping you to achieve the goal of your life. My best wishes to each one of you for happiness and success in the endeavor of your choice and in the total area of life activities. KERMIT M. STOVER, Superintendent Young people of this generation, as prob- ably no other generation, have been concerned with and disturbed by a sinister type of thinking. This school of thought would have you believe that the cynical attitude toward personal behavior, the fast buck and the broken law are to be desired. This attitude, and the resultant poor outcomes are the unusual rather than the usual in our school community. Moral values, accepted truths and proper behavior have not changed. Strength of in- dividual character is as necessary and im- portant today as at any time in history. It is probably more prevalent than we realize. Because the small minority who dangerously skirt the moral and civil law is unusual, this fact causes them to become conspicuous. Each of you can make the greatest con- tribution to yourself, your family, your school and your country by developing a steadfast, useful and worthy character. You will have many well-wishers at this graduation who de- sire your success in your chosen occupation or profession. From Marple -Newtown’s humble beginning in this octagonal schoolhouse came the inspiration for bigger and better schools, until in the year 1932 our school became large enough to publish a yearbook. Since then, MEMORIES has grown with each succeeding year. Only during the war years was there any interruption in its publication. We, the staff, are proud to present this, the 25th edition. BEHIND THE Left to Right: S. Hetzel, H, Alwine, M. Rossi, R. Reinhart. P. T. A. The purpose of the Parent-Teachers Association is to bring our parents into the teacher -pupil relationship. The P.T.A. worked unceasingly this year to bring the parents and school into this ever closer bond. By sponsoring an Open House in which parents followed their childrens’ schedule the par- ents and teachers were brought together for their mutual benefit. An Exchange Sale and various other projects supplied moneyfor the annual P.T.A. scho- larship, this grant of $500 being given each year to a deserving Senior. As with the trend of the country as a whole, this year Marple-Newtown has incorporated an advanced academic course into the curricular of our high school. This course offers accelerated subjects to able students. This curricular com- mittee now plans to investigate the present Com- mercial and General courses and propose needed changes. This is only one of the many facets of the P.T.A. activities and we know that the community and our parents are behind us in our various phases of activity at M.N. 6
