Some have married; some have grown; Some now wander, far from home. And 1 guess we all learned something . . . looking back. We were dreamers; we were wanderers, Idealistic fools, modern day prophets. We had shifted through our patterns, Through a kaleidoscope of relationships. We had few typical problems - even fewer typical solutions. feve were related by our searching . . . looking back. Never been a class so distant, That knew each other ' s souls so well. CLASS PROPHECY It is now the year 1986, and we decided to look up some of our old classmates. We got on the nearest Am- Trak, and started for Washington, D.C. When we arrived, we saw MARCIA NORMAN, who is now a well- known millionaire besides being head nurse at General Hospital. Touring the hospital, we saw nurse LISA MYERS in the delivery room. She had just helped in the delivery of CYNDIE AND TERRY HOFFMAN ' S fifth child. Congratulations??? In the hospital lab we saw who else but the mad scientist TOM JENNINGS and his assistant JAN KELLEY still trying to find a cure for the wearing out of good school books. Hurrying out of the hospital lab, we decided to pay a visit to the White House where we saw president BEN WALTERS. Ben was out in the presidential pool doing some ice fishing while his first lady, CINDY WEYEN, cheered him on. Our next stop was New York City where the big attraction in Times Square was ALAN BROWN and Midnight Highway. His Go-Go girls were CHRIS BURNS and LORI FEAR. CHRIS also is pqominent in women ' s golf while LORI has finally bought her own newspaper company. Walking down the street, we saw KIM PAYNE, she sure is looking Younger ' ' -every day! We talked to KIM and she said that RONDA McKIRAHAN is now back in Georgia where she has her own chain of beauty shops called Harpers Boutiques! We saw BUTCH MASHBURN on the street corner and as we talked to him, he constantly bragged about his Bobby -socks business. Our next stop was Manhattan where we saw the well-known photographer GREG SULLIVAN taking pictures of the well-known model SHARON DUCHARME. Maybe high school activities do pay off! These pictures were appearing on the cover of the Rolling Stone. SHARON told us that CARRIE CRABTREE is now an actress on location in Egypt filming none other than Cleopatra. Manhattan was a little crowded so we decided to go to Hollywood, California. Out on the beach we saw TINA HARRIS soaking up that California sun. Her roommate in her apartment is DAWN EAGLER. DAWN was in her room still trying to make that big decision. We didn ' t get to see her, but we wish her all the luck in the world. Later our Am-Trak stopped at Warner-Brothers studio, where we found dashing director RICK LOHMAR prod¬ ucing a new sequel to the movie Jaws. It will be called Piranha. Leaving that gory scene, we came to the Johnson Johnson Manufacturing Co. President DAVE ALEXANDER even offered us a free tour, but we didn ' t have the time. Maybe some other time, DAVE. As we stepped out, we ran into TAMMY LUSTER. She told us the life in California could really be Bland. One night we dined at an exclusive nightclub where TERESA BARNETT was the main attraction telling the same jokes she told in high school and still getting great laughs out of them. In this nightclub we ran into TIM MULLINS, who is now doing a sequel to the movie Fists of Fury; it will be called Hands of Hercules. The nightclub turned out to be a very in place and we decided to stay for the entertainment. FRANK SHOFNER turned out to be the bouncer in the club. We guess that 4 years of football really do help! As the band came on to play, the lead singer was PAUL DUNCAN. PAUL was replacing the star who was ill, and, of course, that star was none other than Edgar Winter? Who knows maybe PAUL has a new career. We also saw JIM MILLER who is now a professional light man and crew director, but now he ' s working for Edgar. Well, the nightclub got a little crowded so we started off again. We traveled through many states in search of all our old classmates. In Louisiana, we saw DARLA EDWARDS who is the proud owner of her own chain of Long John Silvers? In Colorado we saw BRIAN SHOOKMAN who is now raising his third Foster child. From BRIAN we learned that MARTI HAINES has just gone to the Olympics. All those years of flip-flops really paid off for her. Before we left Colorado, we stopped in an art store and saw a beautiful painting. Then we noticed that the name of the artist was BECKY OLDFIELD. BECKY is now married, but she finds time to draw when she ' s not driving around in her Super Bee. DIANE BLAZER is now the manufacturer of Mann jeans. We are really proud of her! 26 LARRY TYNAN was seen on the streets with a well-known older actress, but we always knew LARRY liked older women! MONTY GRUETMAN and his wife are now the owners of their own chain of motels. Stopping for lunch in McDonalds we recognized RICK BLUNDY. RICK is now a manager, but we couldn’t talk him out of a free quarter-pounder. After lunch we stopped in a gas station and found the manager of it was BRET COFFMAN. BRET told us that he and CHRIS BRAGG were now in a gas war. We couldn’t believe gas was only $2 a gallon here. We talked to BRET and found that JULIE BUTLER is now working as a maid for a very wealthy family. She applied for another job, but her employers wouldn’t believe she really was a ’’butler.” We ran into TERRI BRENNING at the bottom of Pike’s Peak. She said, ’’After 10 years I’ve finally conquered a Hill. Now I’m going for a mountain. ” TERRI told us that RON YOUNKER has gone into business with his best friend Mary Jane. TIM WILSON is now the proud owner of his own motorcycle shop, and right next door MATT GREENE has his own Afro Styling shop. Both of them are looking very well. ROSE AND ROBIN BROWN are still together and now they own their own restaurant, called ’’Brown’s Jug.” Right next door RICK EDGETT owns a drive-up liquor store. Let’s hope it is successful. We decided to start on our way back to beloved Maroa. Driving down the road, we saw a knife manufacturing plant owned by JULIE LAZELL called ’’Spears, Inc.” Now we only had a few more people to look up, and we thought that we would never find them. However, they all turned up as we went back to our old hometown. Maroa seemed the same except it was our class run¬ ning it. RANDY LANTER is now mayor, and DEBBIE MATHEWS is his secretary. MIKE PULLIAM is mayor of Forsyth and he has DIANA WHITACRE as his secretary. Looks like high school did pay off for some! JEFF SLUN- DER owns the A P in Maroa and ANDY TSCHAPPAT is a pilot for Maroa Airlines. JUNE WAELTZ owns the new pizza parlor in Maroa called ’’Procarones. ” SHARON PETERSON used her Home-Ec talent and is now a teacher at M.F.H.S. MIKE DUBSON is at home in Maroa still trying to write a best-selling novel. KAREN CHANEY is staying at home these days because she doesn’t have any bones left to break. MARK LECHLEITER is Maroa’s new pharmacist and he really seems to know what he’s doing. Finally we saw DAVID PRYDE who now owns Flo-Mar, the biggest store in Maroa. Well, it’s been a long trip and we hope we haven ' t missed anyone. It was great hearing about everybody and seeing how much 10 years can change them. We decided to hold a class reunion very soon and everyone prom¬ ised to come so we’ll be looking forward to that. We ' ve brought back many memories and we will treasure these forever, but maybe we’ll hold off our next trip for about 10 years! 20??? Wonder what we ' ll be like, in say 50? . . .? CLASS HISTORY In the fall of 1972, our class of 78 freshmen entered the spooky halls of M.F.H.S. for the first time. We started out by electing class officers. We chose Brian Shookman as President, Terry Hoffman as Vice President, and Cyndie Huffman as Secretary-Treasurer. Our sponsors were Mr. Brandt, Mr. Thompson, Mr. Ritter, Mrs. Berry, and Mrs. Coen. Homecoming came quickly so we started building our float. The theme of our float was Keep on Trucking which didn’t place. Our king and queen candidates were Jeanne Schwabe and Brian Shookman. During the year we gained Theresa Frontz, Rick Edgett, Jack Curry, Debbie Matthews, and Mike Murphy. We lost Denise Gramman, Nancy Jent, Mich Kenyon, Carol Owens, and David Long. Our sophomore year we had 87 students to start out the year. Our officers were Terry Hoff¬ man as President, Butch Mashburn as Vice-President, and Cyndie Huffman as Secretary- Treasurer. Our sponsors were the same except we lost Mr. Brandt and gained Mrs. Clausen. For homecoming our float theme was Can the Ironmen. Cyndie Huffman and Terry Hoff¬ man were our homecoming candidates. During our sophomore year we gained Rick Lohmar, Kim Payne, Tom Rennebarger, and Rhonda Vest. We lost Jeff Coins, Theresa Frontz, Don Harris, Tammy Komewald, Teri Humbl e, David Moore, Billy Tully, and Hank Van Volkenburg. At the start of our first year as upperclassmen, we elected Brian Shookman as President, Butch Mashburn as Vice-President, Tom Jennings as Treasurer, and Randy Lanter as Secre¬ tary . Our Junior homecoming candidates for king and queen were Kim Payne, Lisa Myers, Butch Mashburn, and Brian Shookman. Our float theme was Looks Like We’re Gonna Dunk ' em Donut. Freshman Basketball Team Sophomores Seniors??? Prom time came around and it was held at the Holiday Inn in Decatur on May 3, 1975. The theme was Spring Evenings . . . Summer Memories” with music provided by Just Us. Post Prom was held at Great Skate in Decatur with skating, dancing, and games pro¬ vided for entertainment. Junior year was also time for some hard work which included magazine sales and work in the concession stands during football and basketball games. During the year we lost Sandy Clark, Brenda Palmiter, Jeanne Schwabe, Kevin Chandler, Andy Schaller, Tammi Scott, Lloyd Turner, and Vicki Van Volkenburg. We gained Patty Maynard and Rhonda McKirahan. In the fall of ' 75 we entered the halls of M.F.H.S. for the last time as big (with 59?) bad Seniors. We elected Ben Walters as President, Sharon DuCharme as Vice-President, and Mike Pulliam as Secretary-Treasurer. During the year we gained Dona Shockey, Robin Brown, Rose Brown, and Tina Harris. We lost Lori Kitchens Scott, Dona Shockey, Sue Burke Massey, Tina Harris, Becky Dash, Pam Montgomery, and Barb Holland Durbin. For our last homecoming we elected Sharon DuCharme and Rhonda McKirahan as queen candidates, and Rick Lohmar and Butch Mashburn as king candidates, with Butch and Sharon being chosen as king and queen and Rhonda and Rick as first attendants. The theme of our float was ' ' Kick Comets Can. ’ Now as we are nearing the end, some leave with regret and some with relief but all leave with many memories. We hope everyone has had as much fun as we did even though they won ' t be able to say . . . We, in Student Council, have enjoyed trying to be of service this year. Each year, the new president is briefed on his duties, but the council really has to find out on its own what student government is all about. We have worked and we have learned much about our students, our school, and ourselves this year. Of course, our main purpose is to serve the student body, and we have tried to do this through entertainment, small improvements around the school, and anything we can that will help boost school moral and help provide a good atmosphere for the students ' learning. For each little task we have accomplished, we have learned much, much more, and this to us is success. We wish that much success to next year ' s council. 64 SCIENCE CLUB FRONT ROW: J. Kennison, T. Anyone who is interested in science can join the Science Club. A science project is expected of each member for the Science fair held in the spring. The science members put much time and preparation into these projects. The Science Club also goes on two field trips, one in the fall and one in the spring. This fall our trip took us to Chi¬ cago, where we saw many interesting sights. We visited the Natural History Museum, Shed’s Aquarium, and the Planetarium. We saw many things we had never seen in the halls of M. F. H. S. The science club also has guest speakers. Mr. and Mrs. Leland Ranney, gave a presentation on the growing and preservation of roses. They travel and exhibit their floral arrangements, and their talk was very interesting. We hope to also have various other speakers during the year. In all it has been an exciting year! 65 F.F.A. 66 F.F.A. After the articles are written the typists, Val Whitehead; Stacey Allen; and Cindie Westerman, type them up in columnar form. Then the editor, Rhonda McKirahan, does the newspaper lay-out inserting the headlines and pictures. We began in the fall as a marching band with field conductor Geoff Boyd, and we were seen in the Decatur Labor Day Parade, our own Homecoming Parade, and the ISU Homecoming Parade where we took home a first place trophy in our marching division. At our home football games, half-times started with a precision drill by the marching band followed by more numbers. For the second year, our Trojanette Pom Pom Squad provided a real crowd-stopper with their feature songs. As the weather turned cold, we moved inside and became a concert band. This year we hosted the Macon County Band Festival and many of our own students were in the County Honor Band. Carrie Land represented us in the IMEA District Band at Charleston. For our home audience we presented the Christmas and spring concerts and provided half-time entertainment at the basketball games featuring popular numbers and the Trojanettes. The state contests for band, solos, and ensembles are held in the spring. There we compete for the coveted superior rating. SCHOOL CONCERT BAND FIRST ROW: D. Marsh, S. Pittman, T. Horn, A. Haines, K. Ninety-four students, almost one-third of the student body, made up the mixed choruses this year. The entire group taped a Christmas televi¬ sion program with WAND-TV. Combined with the Jr. High Choruses and the bands, we presented a home Christmas program to celebrate an enjoya¬ ble holiday season. After Christmas the more select groups - boy ' s and girl’s ensembles and honor choir - are chosen. During the spring semester they give numerous performances at churches, meetings, and com¬ munity activities. Also, by the way of honors, a number of our members participated in the IMEA District Chorus and two were chosen for All-State Chorus. The spring is a busy time for us. Mixed chorus, solos, and ensembles enjoy the excitement and competition of the state contests at Millikin Uni¬ versity . County Choral F estival is a day of hard practice climaxed with an evening performance. To top this all off we presented a spring Bicenten¬ nial concert with the band. 77 PEP CLUB FRONT ROW: W. The story, which is set in the 1930 5, centers around the lives of two elderly and eccentric sisters, Martha and Abby Brewster. These two ladies try to ease the burden of lonely old men who come to call, by offering them their famous elderberry wine which contains just a pinch of cyanide. Matters are complicated when their nephew, Mortimer, and other interested parties find out about their activ¬ ities . The plot becomes more involved as the play progresses but the ending finds everything back to normal. ' 81 SHARON AND LARRY JUNE AND TONY SPRING EVENINGS. . . SUMMER MEMORIES 1975 JR.-SR. COACH’S CORNER Four years ago when we began our work here with the football program our immediate goal was to develop pride, dedication, and a win¬ ning attitude in our younger players. This work produced undefeated J. V. teams in 1973 and 1974 and now in 1975 we have just completed the best varsity season since 1963, finishing in a tie for second place in the conference with a 6-3 record. We have the program built now to the point where we can begin each season knowing that we are a contender for the cham¬ pionship. We have come a long way in four years, considering that this year’s record was only the third winning record in the past thir¬ teen years. Our young men deserve a lot of credit.
