Fombelle, J. Bragg. The Maroa-Forsyth High School Band, under the direction of Mr. Ronald Gerald, has made many appearances since the summer months. They participated in the Labor Day Parade in De¬ catur, the Latham Centennial, and the Deland-Weldon Centennial, in which they won first place. They also marched in the Maroa-Forsyth Homecoming Parade and presented two football halftime shows, one of which was Homecoming. The band provided the halftime entertainment at some of the basketball games with some of the newer, popular songs. They presented two summer con- 30 certs, but perhaps; the biggest thrill for the band was winning a First at the State Fair. The band also presented its annual Christmas Program and Spring Concert, and participated in the Macon Co unty Band Festival at Argenta. Dawn Faulkner became the first member to be in the Macon County Jazz Band. Five members of the band went to Charleston for the District Festival. They were Carol Hamilton, Tina Ferrill, Evelyn Groves, Dawn Faulkner, and Amy Wilson. M.F. H.S. Marching Band SITTING: Nancy Schwartz, Secretary-Treasurer; Jill Malone, V. HOMECOMING 1972 The nineteen seventy-two Homecoming week activities started on Thursday, October 19, with Blue and Gold Day. The day of Homecoming, October 20, started by having everyone ' s schedule turned around. At one o ' clock, everyone was let out for the pep rally. The cheerleaders and the senior and junior classes each gave a homecoming skit. The Homecoming parade started from the high school at two o’clock. The high school band led the parade. The king and queen candidates, the class presidents, the cheerleaders, the foot¬ ball players, and the floats made up the rest of the parade. The football game was held at Argenta. Our opponent was the Indians from Moweaqua. The score at the end of the game was 20-33. Although we lost the game, everyone still looked forward to the crowning of the Homecoming King and Queen. The dance was held on Saturday night. The dance was from 7:30 to 11:30 P.M., with the crowning at 8:30 P.M. The theme for the dance was Colour My World. The gym was beautifully decorated and the crowning of King Dennis Phipps and Queen Jill Taylor was a very exciting moment. Hickory Point provided the music and everyone enjoyed themselves. For the seniors. Homecoming 1972 becomes a memory of their past yean at Maroa-Forsyth High School, but for others, it ' s just a beginning. HOMECOMING SNAPS HOMECOMING SNAPS People dancing it up! HISTORY Four years ago our class of 61 members entered Maroa-Forsyth High School for the first time. We were no longer the mighty 8th graders but the lowly freshmen. We found our class sponsors to be Mr. Lueck, Mr. Bingamen, Mr. Campbell, and Mrs. Diller. For our class officers we chose President - Dennis Phipps, Vice President - Nancy Kennison, Secretary - Kathy Morris, and Treasurer - Jane Sanders. To represent us at our first homecoming dance we chose Jo Ellen Ray, Kathy Morris, Dennis Phipps, and Stan Weikle as Queen and King candidates. As enthusiastic freshmen we worked very hard on our class float which was a disaster, but Dennis Phipps was chosen second attendant at the Homecoming dance. The theme of our float was Grind Em Up. After homecoming came the big event for our Freshman year - Freshman Initiation. As a money making project for our senior trip, we sold towel calendars earning quite a bit of money toward our trip. During the year we gained Mike Short and Diane Fogarty, and we lost Roy Mosser and Robert Chester during the summer months. In the fall of 1970 we entered school as sophomores with a little more confidence than the year before. To lead us that year we elected Dennis Phipps as our President, Jane Sanders - Vice President, Kathy Morris - Secretary, Cindy Atchison - Treasurer. The sponsors for our sophomore year were Mr. Lueck, Mr. Binga¬ men, and Mr Campbell. We lost Mrs. Diller. As candidates for our second homecoming we chose Kathy Morris and Dennis Phipps. Our float, entitled Cash In A Victory, placed second. We gained Donna Bren- ning, Darrel Cookson, Carol Dickerson, Jerry Fear, Greg Hart, and Nancy Tombaugh, and we lost Doug Chandler, Karen Galyean, Regina Gilliland, Liz Gross, and Vickie Thoreson. Carol Hamilton was chosen as F. F.A. sweetheart. Our Junior year arrived with that all important Junior-Senior prom. The theme of our prom was Stair¬ way to the Stars held at the Sheraton Inn, with postprom at the YMCA. Officers for the year were Jane San¬ ders as President, Tom Riley as Vice President, Robbie Christman as Secretary, and Jill Taylor as Treasurer. Candidates for the Homecoming dance were Robbie Christman and Kathy Morris. Robbie was chosen as first attendant. Our float received second place and was entitled Are they soup yet? Miss Etnier joined us as our new class sponsor, and helped guide us through the rest of our high school year. As Jun iors we worked very hard with our magazine sales and our concession stand at the basketball games. On May 13 the Junior- Senior Play The Man Who Came To Dinner was given with a lot of us in it. It was a big success, and ev¬ eryone really had a lot of fun putting it on for the public and school friends. We gained Dan Nunn and lost Barb Daniels, Hope Jinks, Mark Miller, Debbie Pittman, and Ruth Archer. In the fall of 72 we entered the hallowed halls for the final phase of our high school career. Our offi¬ cers for that year were Becky Byers - President, Rick Schroll - Vice President, Robbie Christman - Treasurer. Jane Sanders Wattles was elected Secretary, but she was married and moved to California later in the year so we then elected Greg Hart. Our class was very proud of our Homecoming Queen Jill Taylor and our King Dennis Phipps. Our float entitled, Smoke Em Out, ” failed to place but we all had a lot of fun building the float - especially when it came time to spray paint. A few nameless souls always ended up fighting with a spray paint can. After homecoming, we were busy selling candy as a means of earning money for our class trip. Our sponsors were Mr. Bingamen, Mr. Lueck, Mr. Campbell, and Miss Etnier. We gained noone, but we lost Dan Nunn and Jane Sanders. 96 Now as we prepare to leave these halls, we the seniors” hope that all of you will have as much fun as we did throughout your years at M. F.H.S., but you will never be able to say: Senior Seniors Great are we we’re the Class of 73 PROPHECY The year is 1983, and we have decided to look up our old friends from the class of ’73. We were driving down the road, and as we crossed into Illinois a familiar face was seen greeting us to the state. It was none other than NANCY KENNISON, the first woman governor. Finally we arrived at the combined metropolis of Maroa-Forsyth only to see AVA ROOSEVELT as the may¬ or. We always knew Nancy and Ava would become famous. We talked to Ava and she told us that ROBBIE CHRISTMAN, MARK CHENOWETH and DWIGHT Me DANIEL are still well-known for their notorious egg throwing pranks around Maroa-Forsyth. Ava also told us that ROB BRATTON and DOROTHY SMITH got married as had TINA FERRILL and CHUCK LEACH. Chuck is also the new basketball coach since Coach Ritter s retirement after the 72- 73 year. DONNA BRENNING and LEESA CROWELL made it to stardom with their weekly T.V. show, Maroa Farm¬ ers. And speaking of farmers, TOM RILEY has now become the Maroa-Forsyth Ag teacher. We always knew he liked farmers. NANCY CULLISON is also a teacher at Maroa-Forsyth High. She took over for Mrs. Miller in the Home Ec. area. Seems she just couldn’t leave all that cooking and sewing behind. DEBBIE GARREN has to be the students best friend. She s teaching them to street-surf without getting caught. Wonder why she s qualified? We stopped up town at CHANDLER S Cafe, yes VICKIE S proved herself worthy, only to see LARRY COFF¬ MAN and MIKE SHORT back in the kitchen as the chefs. With a system like that, she just can t lose. Vickie told us about the wild party being held that night. We were shocked when we heard that CHERYL MARLATT, CAROL FULK, and CINDY ATCHISON were the hostesses. Guess they couldn’t bear to stay shy once out of high school. We decided to go to the party and see if any more of the ole 73 gang would be there. JERRY FEAR and BECKY JARVIS talked to us and told us that they had joined forces and now own the Turn- Style chain store at the south end of Maroa. They also told us that JO ELLEN RAY had just had her 99th wreck and had had her license taken away. JOE SANDERS now owns the Pool Hall. He decided owning the place would be a lot cheaper. He was over playing pool, as usual, all during the party. DENNIS PHIPPS is now the owner of the movie theater in Maroa. The only movie he allows to be shown is Oliver. DEBBIE PARKER is now the famous telephone operator at Maroa. She got all her practice from the speech program. 98 A little later on in walked two race car drivers, and as we got closer we saw they were STEVE SHAW and DICK WEIKLE. They also own Motion Raceway, that famous track in Assumption. KATHY MORRIS (Halicki) was celebrating her re-election as Mrs. Polock” for the eighth consecutive year. We left the party early to get some sleep, but we were up early to try and find some more of our old pals. SANDEE NEWELL is now publishing the Maroa-Forsyth Daily Times. She loved her high school job so much she had to carry on with it. JOE GARRETT is now the dentist at Maroa. He has EVELYN GROVES employed as his pleasant, blonde assistant, which helps him a lot. As head scout master at Maroa, DENNIS BRAGG has proved himself worthy. He is trying to keep all the kids out of trouble in Maroa. STAN WEILKE has taken over his father ' s business and is in the process of cleaning up all the Maroa slums (there aren t any). He was in his usual place ... sitting in Mason’s taking a break. The new Maroa secretary is none other than LYNETTE MONTGOMERY. Maybe she learned something from Mrs. Coen after all! We spied a far-out house down the road and decided to take a closer look. JEFF HOFF was outside and he told us that he and MARK HARPER were the owners of this bachelor pad. JAN COLE was up town buying supplies for her new doctor ' s office. She told us that PAMM NORMAN and JONI SCHWABE were the founders of the Hickory Point Club down on Hickory Point Road. Pamm sings and dances while Joni is the bartender. Jan also told us that CYNDEE OLDFIELD married Roger finally, and is the proud mother of eleven children. She lives down in Louisiana. BOB WOOD and PAUL LAYTON were driving M-F school buses. They figured they could do a much bet¬ ter job. We were listening to the radio and heard JILL TAYLOR’S latest recording Return my ' HART ' to me. RICK SCHROLL was the radio announcer. Yes, Rick made all those speeches pay off. BECKY BYERS, CAROL HAMILTON, and JUANITA SHIREY also released a hit album. They call themselves the Funky Trojans. The album is a comedy, something fot which all three are well-qualified. As we left town we waved to NANCY HARRELSON (Osborn) who is head secretary for the Osborn Fertilizer Co. It was great to see all of the kids again and at the rate they ' re going, the future can only bring greater things. FORSYTH FIRST ROW: P. Norman, J. Schwabe. M. Chenoweth. SECOND ROW: A.
