We have done our best in trying to make this, the 48th annual published at Maroa-Forsyth High, the best ever. There were many times this year when we wondered if we would ever get all the pictures taken, not to mention getting the annual finished by our deadline. However, the wonderful cooperation of the faculty and students has enabled us to do so and for this we are grate¬ ful. Now that the annual is nearly completed and the last copy sheet ready to turn in, we feel that this Trojanaire is one you will always look back upon with pride and one that will bring back many fond memories. Thank you, O MYiKj D itCflfcow We, the Senior Class of 1963, gratefully dedicate the Trojanaire to Mrs. Coen, Vho has been a constant source of help, encouragement, and advice in making this years annual a success. Mrs. Coen, an outstanding classroom teacher, always shows re¬ markable patience and understanding with all her students. For this we thank her. CJIms [4trf(vuj Four years ago our class of forty-eight members entered Maroa-Forsyth High School for the first time. We were no longer the mighty eighth graders but the lowly Freshmen. We found our class sponsors to be Mrs. Bernice Kelly and Mrs. Anna Hopkins. For our class officers we chose J. Parker, President; M. Mc¬ Guire, V.-President; M. Hinkle, Secretary; C. Flint, Treasurer; and J. Crouch, Reporter. We also elected J. Norfleet as Student Council representative and M. Atchison and D. Altic as Pep Club members. To represent us at oui first Home¬ coming Dance we chose M. McGuire, J. Parker, T. Beard, and J. Thrall as king and queen candidates. As enthusiastic Freshmen we worked very hard on our class float which was awarded first place. The theme of our float was Put Mt. Zion in Dutch. After Homecoming, came the big event of our Freshman year--Freshman Initiation. As our first Christmas Dance approached, we chose C. Flint, M. Hinkle, J. Norfleet, and B. Blick as our candidates. For the Sweetheart Dance, we chose as candidates M. McGuire, C. Spreekelmeyer, B. Blick, and V. Hanks. During the year we gained J. McKee. As an exciting climax to our Freshman year the roof of the gymnasium collapsed while work¬ men were building onto the school. We began our Sophomore year with forty-seven members. During the sum¬ mer we lost C. Grubbs, C. Flint, D. Skelton, and J. Gray and gained D. Brew¬ er and J. Campbell. The sponsors for our Sophomore year were Mrs. Kathleen Harris and Mr. L. A. Turner. To head our class we chose J. Crouch. President; B. Blick, V. -President; M. McGuire, Secretary; J. Norfleet, Treasurer; and W. Wikoff. Reporter. We elected C. Spreckelmeyer and C. Ohlemeyer as Stu¬ dent Council representatives and S. Boyd and P. Pulliam as Pep Club members. As candidates for our second Homecoming we chose M. Bolton. J. Parker, T. Beard, and J. Thrall. C ir float placed third with the theme WeVe Got ’Em in a Stew. M. McGuire, M. Hinkle, J. Norfleet, and B. Blick were chosen as candidates for the 1960 Christmas Dance. The candidates chosen for our second Sweetheart Dance were D. Moberly, C. Spreckelmeyer. B. Blick, and R. Stephenson. In the fall of 61 we entered Maroa-Forsyth High as upperclassmen with Mr. Larry Finley and Mrs. Nancy Epple as our sponsors. To lead our class we elected B. Blick, President; M. McGuire, V.-President; J. Gillen. Secretary; J. Crouch. Treasurer; and M. Atchison, Reporter. We also chose J. Norfleet, J. Parker, and First Place Freshman Float Freshman Initiation Saved By the Belle Junior Play S. Dotson as Student Council representatives and M. Bolton and G. Schroll as Pep Club members. We were all very happy when our class rings arrived early in September. M. McGuire, M. Bolton, T. Beard, and J. McKee represented our class at the annual Homecoming Dance. This year our float, Don ' t Spare ' Em, placed third. As Juniors we worked very hard with our magazine sales and our concession stand at the football and basketball games. We chose as candidates for the Christmas Dance M. Bolton, M. McGuire, B. Blick, and R. Stephenson. We were proud of Mary Ann who was chosen First Attendant and Melanie and Bud who were chosen Second Attend¬ ants. In the spring of ' 62 our class presented Saved By the Belle, a three-act comedy. Another big event of our Junior year was the Junior-Senior Prom which was held at the Decatur Club. Under the Mag¬ nolias was the theme of this spring formal. During the year we gained J. Newman and L. Wright and lost S. Edgecombe and V. Hanks. We entered the halls of Maroa-Forsyth High for the last time in the fall of ' 62. We began our Senior year with forty-three members as we had lost C. Wat¬ tles Mason, L. Wright, M. Hunt, and R. Garren dur¬ ing the summer. Again Mr. Finley served as our sponsor. We elected as class officers G. Schroll, President; J. Newman, V. -President; M. Atchison, Secretary; and J. Gillen, Treasurer. B. Blick was chosen as Student Council representative and M. McGuire and J. McKee as Pep Club members. Our class is very proud of Homecoming Queen Melanie McGuire and King Jerry Newman. The other Senior candidates, M. Bolton and J. Norfleet, were chosen as First Attendants. Our float, entitled Hot Dog! We ' re the Wieners! failed to place; but we Seniors won first with our Homecoming skit. In the fall of ' 62 our class presented the three-act drama Lost Flight. As Christmas king and queen candidates we chose K. Arnold, M. Bolton, B. Blick, and R. Stephenson. Queen Mary Ann and King Bud reigned over the dance, and Kay and Richard served as First Attendants. ' ’Lost Flight - Senior Play Although we are looking forward to graduation this spring, we will be sad to end this phase of our life.
