We, the Senior Classof I960, dedicate this annual, The Trojanaire, to Mr. Melvin J. Nicol who has been a great inspiration and help to us throughout our years at Maroa-Forsyth High School. Size alone, large or small, does not guarantee quality in educa¬ tion, whether we are referring to classes, high schools, colleges, or salaries. It is only the individual teacher who can bring quality in education. Our teacher’s familarity with content, their proven tech¬ nique, manners of presentation, curiosity, sensitivity, understanding of the world about them, and the people in it, dedication to serving others in a friendly atmosphere, are several phases of inspiration in our high school. The year ' 56 is the scene With initiation and such, Its the start of the begin And the close of very much. As the next year came Some said, it ' s getting hard, But you know it’s all the same, When education is being carved. ' 59 was the year We juniors crashed the scene, Hope without fear For we were always quick and keen. And then it ' s here The year we ' ll never forget No more is it just near For now we wish for more and yet, We know it ' s not in vain You ' ll carry on just the same. By Carol Windlan Our graduation seemed far away to us as we enrolled in Maroa High School as fresh¬ men in the fall of 56. Mr. Kay, as sponsor, introduced us to high school. As class officers we elected: Carol Merrifield, President; Junior Odle, Vice President; Judy Al¬ lsup, Secretary; and Mike Townsend, Treasurer. Our candidates for Homecoming Joanne Williams and Judy Allsup, were escorted at the dance by members of the varsity football team. Christmas time finally rolled around and our Christmas Dance candidates were Jenna McMillen, Joanne Williams, Laverne Malone, and Ron Terrell. As freshmen in 1956, we, perhaps more than anyone, knew the pride of having a state tournament basketball team come from our school. Our Sophomore year found us with a new advisor, Mr. Petrowitch. The class elected President, Sheldon Nicol; Vice President, Junior Odle; Secretary, Jenna McMillen; and Treasurer, Mike Townsend. Homecoming festivities found us with Joanne Williams, Judy Chalcraft, Laverne Malone, and Mike Townsend as our candidates for the dance. Time passed rapidly and before long Christmas time and the annual Christmas dance were again here, when we chose our attendants, Roberta Traxler, Judy Chalcraft, La¬ verne Malone, and Mike Townsend. After the third dose of semesters we moved into the remainder of the school year. Our next year started off with the addition of another sponsor. Miss Janssen, to help share the load of Junior activities with Mr. Petrowitch. Officers for ' 58 and 59 were President, Ron Terrell; Vice President, Carol Merrifield; Secretary, Roberta Traxler; and Co-Treasurers, Jenna McMillen and Mike Townsend. For the two big all-school dances were: for Homecoming, Connie Perkins, Judy Chalcraft, Richard Bennett, and Laverne Malone, and for Christmas Joanne Williams, Connie Perkins, D’Wayne Lynch, and Ron Terrell. This spring found us presenting our first class play and planning the Junior-Senior Prom. Seniors at last! Ron Terrell as president, Richard Bennett as vice president, Sheldon Nicol as secretary, Mike Townsend and Laverne Malone as co-treasurers are to lead us with the help of Mr. Lovell, our senior sponsor. Our class now numbers thirty-nine. We seniors elected Connie Perkins, Joanne Williams, Mike Townsend, and Laverne Malone as our Homecoming candidates. Joanne and Laverne were crowned Queen and King. A Date with Judy, a three-act comedy, kept us busy between Homecoming and the fast-arriving Christmas dance. Our candidates for this Winter formal were Con¬ nie Margenthaler, Judy Chalcraft, Richard Bennett, and Junior Odle. Again our class held the royalty for the dance, for Judy and Junior were chosen by their classmates as Queen and King. Our last semester has fled like no other, and none has been filled with more history making events in our lives. We now leave with the mixed emotions of regret, and hupe for the future.
