We shivered on Registration Day In the fall of fifty-one, But somehow passed Semester tests And survived initiation. SN Everyone shared in work and play SE As Sophomores of fifty-two, And felt we really did belong Now that things were not so new, Then, when our class rings came, How happy and proud were we! And thankful to be Juniors In nineteen -fifty-three. Seniors find there's much to do In the way of preparation, But everything will be ready For the night of Graduation. ” When we leave the hilltop of learning, And the place where we've been trained, We won't forget to wisely use The knowledge we have gained. Program Home Economics Class in an informal discussion in the living quarters, FHA. Building Today For Tomorrow is our theme for this year. Our eight purposes were summarized in the following goals: Developing greater understanding among the homes of the world. Training and improving ourselves to be more democratic in all phases of life. Teaching ourselves to realize and accept our responsibilities in our home. Understanding what homemaking can contribute to our future lives at home or in business. pop We tried to keep in touch with each other through summer vacation with a box lunch at Betty Lienhart's in June. We played croquet and rode horseback. August 31 we held a back-to-school wiener roast in honor of the new members and to renew old friendships, September 14 we had a joint hayride and wiener roast with the F.F.A. We had a double hobo day October 8 and 9 which amounted to $89. 99 profit. The club voted to continue making money to buy a davenport and chair for a family living center for the Home Ec room. November 24 we had a cake walk after the basketball game and made $19.55 which made it possible to purchase our family living center. Swartz Furniture Store gave us a 79% discount, We observed National F.H.A. week by doing something different each day such as going to church, putting posters up in town, family surprise night, an assembly program, good deed day, and gave steam iron to the Home Ec department and put on a television pro- gram, In January we had a family fun night for our parents and initiated our new members by candle light. In addition we held a dance party, cooked and served FFA banquet and put on a style show with refreshments for the PTA on May 18. Kintner Ceam News Maroa started the season with 30 boys out for the squad. We finished with 26 still with us. We had an average season in which we won 3, lost4and tied 1. We were hindered by injuries in several of our big games. MAROA ROMPS SAYBROOK 27-7 We maintained a lead all through the game. We scored first when Creekmur played 2 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter. Weikle converted, A Weikle to Wisnasky pass for the second touchdown of the quarter and Weikle again added the extra point. They scored in the third quarter. In the fourth, Boyer scored on an 80 yard run and a 1 yard plunge by Lynch scored from the 4 with Weikle adding the extra point. We looked and felt good that day. MT. ZOIN WINS 13-6 We opened our home season and conference season with a loss to a team that was rated our equal. It was a feature game in the area. At the half the score stood 0-0 and it was a hard fought game. They scored first but we tied them and it stood 6-6. Late in the fourth quarter they started a drive that resulted in their winning the game. HEY WORTH SPOILS MAROA'S HOMECOMING 138-7 In the Heyworth game we were handicapped by the absence of two regular backs, Weikle and Boyer. With Runyen as captain and Chalcraft at quarterback we gave them everything we had, but the first quarter beat us. All their scores came while the game was still young. We got a safety in the 2nd quarter. In the second half we fought to a final stand still. MAROA - ILLIOPOLIS TIE 13-13 Maroa tried to find the road to victory but came off with a tie. It was a costly game because we lost Creekmur for the season. Boyer scored late in the 2nd quarter and Weikle converted to tie the score 7-7. It stood that way at half time. Late in the fourth quarter with us trailing 13-7, Wisnasky hauled a Weikle throw in to tie it up on one of the better game plays of the season. MAROA ROLLS ASSUMPTION 27-0 Query scored the first of four Maroa touchdowns and Weikle made the first of his 3 conversions. Lynch followed with Weikle again tossing the ball. In the second quarter Frank Weikle went across on a quarterback sneak and missed his only attempt of the night. In the fourth quarter Frank again went over, this time from about the 20 and he added the extra point. We were on the road again and we weren't stopping. MAROA ROMPS MOWEQUA 33-0 We kicked off and they lost the ball deep in their own territory. Two plays later Boyer scored from the 8 on an end run. We again kicked off and Weikle scored, again converting the extra point successfully. In the second quarter Weikle hit Wisnasky for a TD. We lead at the half 21-0 as Weikle hit a Mowequa man for a safety. In the third quarter Weikle - Wisnasky’s combination play lead to another touchdown, the 5th and final of the game. Plays later the game came to an end with Maroa on the top 33-0. LOVINGTON UPSETS MAROA 13-7 Boyer scored on a 75 yard run in the second quarter for our first TD, with Weikle booting for the extra point. This did not take the Lovington team down to a stand still. They came back fighting harder than ever. Lovington scored their only two touchdowns and extra points of the game during the second half of the game. This concludes our cruise of the 1953 football season in which Maroa came out in the top ranking of the Soya Conference. This was a year of good games but as usual a few bad ones appeared to spoil the undefeated season. £ Be Ake Ost Foy PAG Daal a S = Nig en OY Pe TY OS ) = Ns Farmer City Deland-Weldon W arrensburg Argenta Bethany Lovington Mt.
