History of M.C.H.S. The earliest records obtainable show that Maroa had a high school organization about 1885. The first class was graduated at that time with a membership of eight. The school at that time was combined with the grades in administration and building. The building was a fine brick structure. The school grew rapidly and in 1887 a two room addition was built. In 1890 the old frame building had to be reused. The brick build- ing was used until 1917 when the present brick buildhg was constructed on the east side of town. The grades used the first floor and the high school, the second floor. In 1920 the high school was organized as a com- munity high school Dist. No.l5l, with a separate Board of Education. The high school continued to use the second floor of the grade school until 1951. The en- rollment was getting so large that the school standing was endangered because of lack of space. The present high school building was constructed and finished in 1951. It was opened in March, 1951 with an enrollment of l46.The cost was q '5'70,000 to which additional equip- ment was added, bringing the total cost to 390,000.The commercial department was added in the following year. Enrollment then increased as many non-high students were attracted. In 1956-57 the south basement and shower rooms were completed at the cost of S520,000. A full time agriculture department was added in 1957-58. School Busses The school district operates three school busses. These busses make one trip each morning through the surrounding rural district and bring the students to school. At the close of school, they take the students to their homes and all who stay to practice football, basketball, baseball or track are driven to theirlmmes at the close of these activities, During the year the busses are used to drive the various athletic squads to their games in other towns. Often an extra bus is also used at these times to take members of the student body who wish to gc. This year the Seniors made a trip to the Moundscn on: of the busses Duri th 1 b have been held' . ng e year severa us parties
