We wouldn't be giving you the full story of what Marmion means to us it we did not tell you about the greatest shock that we had during our four vears here. It really happened last year. on May 25. 1955, to be exact. The whole school was on maneuvers that day iust outside the limits of Aurora. Early in the afternoon a runner brought a startling message. It stopped us in our tracks. All of a sudden. somthing went out of the day. That is the way we learned that Father Wilfrid. our Commandant, had died. We iust couldn't believe it. It wasn't possible. But, when we got back to school, it was all too true. I auess we had iust taken it for granted that Fr. Wilfrid would always be there. We saw him the first day of school and we told him goodbye at the end of each year. Between those times we saw him every day many times every day. Even if we tried for hours to tell you the things Fr. Wilfrid had done for us. we would fall far short of the full story. A year later. we still have not fully realized that he is gone. We still expect to see him look up from his desk when we walk into the old office to ask for a permission or to get a bawlinq out. FR. WILFRID POPHAM, O.
