Through the 1959 MAKLINTONIAN we will keep the memories of those victories and defeats, the days of the very nervous freshman to an envied senior, bright and clear. With these memories cornea sincere gratitude for the training, inspiration, friendship, and experience obtained at our Alma Mater. To the faculty and students of MarintonHigh School, we the Senior Class of 1959extend our heartiest wishes and hopes foryour years to be as enjoyable as ours have been. With pride and enthusiasm we present to you the 1959 MARLINTONIAN and we sincerely hope you find it as much enjoyment from leafing through the pages as we have had by publishing it. m n ■ Mr. and Miss Marlinton High School CONTENTS Introduction Administration C lasses Activities Athletics Advertising 4 31 JKt “ m r ' ' n ' ■ Uliv. • • ' i-i ADMINISTRATION All things must end, even good things, and you are now approaching the end of one part of your life. In many ways the last year of high school is the most importzint of all school years, for it provides a good chance to clarify your thinking about ideals and goals. This last year in high school is an excellent time to overcome personal deficiencies, build needed strengths, and get the most from the friendships and opportunities your high school provides. Soon you will be leaving the protective atmosphere of Marlinton High School, and you must make important decisions as to obs, future education, and responsibilities of adult citizenship. The decisions you make will probably affect the rest of your life, for every adult is influenced by his answers to his youthful problems. It is the nature of society for new problems to arise constantly, and the best society can do is to become adept in solving problems. The purpose of your education is to test one idea against another idea, one method against another method, to inquire into and to ex¬ amine until men can know the true from the false. Sincerely yours M. H. Brooks, Superintendent J. K. Arbogast, Assistant Superintendent PRINCIPAL ' S MESSAGE Class of 1959, no class has ever had a greater challenge. In a world fall of miracles yoa can take a place. How small or how large a place will depend on how hard you work at your educa¬ tion and your assigned job. I congratulate you on your present attainments and wish for you all of the success in the world. Mr. H. Arnout Yeager POCAHONTAS COUNTY TEACHER OF THE YEAR Congratulations and best of luck to the senior class of 1959. Mr. J. Z. They journeyed to Webster Springs to take a loss. They defeated their next foes and won the Northern Greenbrier Conference Championship by defeating Bonceverte, Lewis- barg, and White S ulphur, their three conference teams. After dropping one to Bichwood, the Copperheads closed the season with their home¬ coming game, losing in a thrilling battle with Greenbank. The highlight of the season was the game with the Meadow Bridge Wilcats in the Northern and Southern Greenbrier Conference Play-off, a real thriller all the way. The Copperheads were edged out 28-20 and Meadow Bridge went to take the State Championship. Seven members of the 1958 team: Wallace Bur¬ gess, Bill Clarkson, Tom Shafer, Butch Yeager, Bichard Barlow, Marvin Doss and Alonzo Dean, who turned in fine performances on the gridiron, will be sorely missed next year.
