Then--Senior year. Realizing that we are standing on new thresholds, our final preparation for life, we respond with a deeper sense of responsibility, a seriousness of purpose mixed always with warm sentimental feelings. With this attainment of stature comes an urgent desire to leave a worthwhile record of the class of 1958. As we pass our light on to all the future seniors of Marlinton High School, we hope that they, graspingthe ideals which w e have held as standardSjWill continue to try for the best, as we have tried. The hopes and fears, The work and tears, The smiles and cheers-- The Best Years of Our Lives-- are met in our 195 8 MARLINTONIAN A pretty queen plus a victory made our homecoming complete. We could have danced all night! ! How silly can we get? FOREWORD School days are numbered among those which are the most remem¬ bered of one ' s life-time. Years when fellowship with our friends and educational opportunities become enjoyable realities that are to be filed individually into the minds of youth to be reviewed at a later time. To memorialize these moments which so hurriedly depart from human memories, the Marlintonian staff has condensed these many days into one book. All this was done so that the students of Marlinton High School will always remember these-The Best Years of Our Lives. ♦ CONTENTS Introduction Administration Classes Activities Athletics Advertisements M. H. Brooks, Superintendent J. K. Arbogast, Assistant Superintendent ADMINISTRATION All things must end, even good things, and you are now approaching the end of one part of your life. In many ways the last year of high school is the most important of all school years, for it provides a good chance to clarify your thinking about ideals and goals. This last year in high school is an excellent time to overcome personal deficiencies, build needed strengths, and get the most from the friendships and opportunities your high school provides. Soon you will be leaving the protective atmosphere of Marlinton High School, and you must make important de¬ cisions as to jobs, future education, and the responsibilities of adult citizenship. The decisions youmake will probably affectthe rest of your life, for every adult is influenced by his answers to his youthful problems. It is the nature of society for new problems to arise constantly, and the best society can do is to become adept in solving problems. The purpose of your education is to test one idea against another idea, one method against another method, to inquire and to examine until men can know the true from the false. Sincerely yours, M. H. Brooks, Superintendent J. K. Arbogast, Assistant Superintendent 8 PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Class of 1958, no class has ever had a greater challenge. In a world full of miracles you can take a place. How small or how large a place will depend on how hard you work at your education and your assigned job. I congratulate you on your present attainments and wish for you all of the success in the world. Mr. H. Arnout Yeager 9 Nancy M.
